MSI K8N NEo4 Platinum (601-7125-010)

Bios 1.20

A64 3500 S939 90NM Winchester

Zalman CNPS7000B-Cu CPU Cooler

Corsair XMS Twinx1024-3200XL 1024Mb matched pair 2-2-2-5 latency double sided

PowerColor Radeon X600PRO All-in-wonder 256Mb DDR PCI-Express

TAGAN TG480-U01(480W) 480W

NEC ND3520 DVD Writer

2 x Raptor 74Gb SATA 150 run using the NVidia bootable RAID 0 (Striped)

Floppy Disk drive installed.

USB Microsoft IR device for the Media Center remote from Microsoft.

Windows Xp Media edition

VCore 1.34 to 1.39

3.3v 3.31

5V 5.03 to 5.05

+12v 12.02

Memory voltage 2.70

CPU Temp 26 to 30 degrees

FSB 200 Mhz

PCI-E 100 Mhz

The system indicates no problems in the Device Manager. All hardware is operating.

In the BIOS I have the onboard gigabit Lan disabled, Raid enabled, SATA 1&2 enabled for a raid 0. For the memory, in the BIOS I have the following set for the Corsair memory fitted:-

Timing Mode=Manual

TCL - CAS Latency 2

TRAS - Min RAS active time 5T

TRCD - Ras to Cas delay=2T

Trp - Row Precharge time = 2T

and the other items in this section as their default or on auto.

For User config mode, this is set to manual and the setting 1T/2T timing is set to 1T. All other parts are default values.

When booting it always states that the raid disks are "Healthy".

The system boots up and displays the desktop ok. After a time varying from 2 minutes to 30 minutes the whole system freezes. One time it came up with a "Machine_Check_Exception", Stop, 0x0000009C (0x000004,0x80545ff0,0xB2000000,0x00070f0f)

Another time it detroyed the directory because it would not boot and had to have Windows reloaded. A further time it crashed and could not reboot because a Windows DLL required for loading was claimed to be missing.

I have tried:-

a) Setting the Timing Mode to Auto

b) TRAS tried at 10

c) TCL 3, TRAS 10, TRCD 3 TRP 3

d) 1 stick of the 512 memory only

And all fail....

I have run Memtest86 and that passes when 1 stick is installed although I then boot the system and after a random time the system freezes/crashes.

ANY IDEAS ANYONE?????

  • 4 weeks later...

One user reported crashing/Blue Screens/etc. over and over.....crimson and clover.......until when doing yet another fresh install of XP and Nforce chipset/mobo drivers, -he decided to CLICK 'NO' TO THE SCREEN ASKING IF HE WANTED TO INSTALL THE SW/IDE DRIVERS (remember that part?). Figuring he was only using SATA RAID, he skipped that part of the CD install and HIS PROBLEMS ENDED! No more BSOD.
