joevfx
I went to your system selects page and for my Apple G5 it suggested a type of Ram that came in single sticks. the G5 mother board takes duel channel ram and must be installed in pairs. How come it suggested non duel channel ram? What is the best and fastest Ram i can get for this computer. I am a compositor for film, so ill be working with huge files some over 2k resolution, so i want stable fast ram. The G5 can go up to 8gigs, so i want to put sticks in at 1 gig each so in the future i can go up to the 8. Can you suggest me ram. Rigth now i want to upgrade the factory 512mb to 2gigs. Thanks. Wired
There is no such thing as Dual Channel memory, as this is a property of the memory controller in how it handles memory. This is why you can place memory in different slot configurations on a motherboard and it will register as single or dual channel. Yes, you need more than one stick to run memory in dual channel (assuming they're in the right slots), however the system should run just fine with one stick (of course, in single mode). Also, the system can run in single channel mode with 2 sticks (again, in the correct slots). Apple may have designed their G5s to only run with pairs, but I highly doubt it. joevfx
I keep getting told is has to be installed in pairs. So basically i can get an pc3200 as long as there installed in equal memory sizes? So can i use the twinx series of Ram or the xms, or the system selects? Which will yield better performance? thansk again. Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted May 12, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted May 12, 2005 If you will replace all of the memory that came in your system I would suggest Twinx1024-3200 or VS1GBKit400 for best performance and Value respectivly. However, if you will add to what came with your system then you will want to use System Select memory.
