Icetruck
Hi, Please can you help. I've got a problem with 1gb of Corsair Xpert memory working on my system the motherboard that I have got is an ASUS A8n-SLI deluxe. What happens is for example while playing Half-Life 2 the game becomes jerky Then the display on the Xpert becomes corrupted. When I run the dashboard it shows no memory installed. I then restart the computer and all I get is a blank screen a series of beeps. Once I turn off then switch on the computer it runs perfectly. I've only had the computer just over a month and its done this three times, the rest of the time it's extremely stable. I've updated the Bios from 1004 to 1007 and it still has this problem also I've ran memtest and its passed all the tests. I've read the there has been memory problems with this motherboard and they should be cured with future Bios updates. I will be most grateful if someone can help Icetruck. Yellowbeard
Icetruck, it could easily be bios settings or some other issue. That RAM should run fine on your MOBO. First, could you please list your complete system spex and then list all the bios settings that relate to voltages, RAM, and CPU. This will help give more info so that we can spot your issue. Also, what specific model/brand of power supply are you using? Good luck, Mike.
Garvin
Asus-sli deluxe board problem. This board is very picky as to bios settings. The revision 1004 bios was twitchy on most peoples boards, 1007 didn't work for everyone.. Chipset driver revision 6.53 hasn't faired well either. The most stable bios revision is 1006 coupled with nvidea chipset drivers 6.39. The following link's first page gives detailed instructions for setting up a stable board and links to the bios revision 1006 update and 6.39 chipset drivers. I followed their instructions for setting up this board and everything is rock stable, Half-life 2 and Doom 3 run perfectly. The link: http://hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/38623/ Good luck. Wired
Also, it may be a power issue based upon what you have said. Posting your full system specs would be very helpful.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 10, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 10, 2005 I dont think the PSU you have meets the MB makers requirements as it would need to be ATX 2.0 Compliant especially when using SLI mode.
jdracer47
I finally gave up on that worthless A8N SLI board, IMHO it is the biggest POS ever built by anyone. I have had better luck with the DFI nForce 4 SLI-DR but it is pretty finicky too. I had years of stable overclocking with Intel before switching, and now I wish I had waited for ATI's SLI solution. Big thumbs down for nVidia and Asus for their unholy SLI (Satan Lives Inside) creation. BTW--the sites that had such a wonderful experience reviewing the A8N SLI were given a "kit" with all parts included to review. There is a huge thread over at hardwareanalysis.com regarding this mobo.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 10, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 10, 2005 Were you using the Thermaltake PSU? If so that may have been some of the problem as that PSU is not ARX 2.0 Compliant as well. But I understand how you feel I think we all have had lemons from time to time. Icetruck
Hi, I tried the Bios settings that Garvin very kindly advised and my system is now running faster. My games are now loading up much faster than before and everything seems to be smoother. I've had a look at my Bios and here are the settings for CPU, Dram etc. CPU Configuration CPU Type Amd Athlon 64 FX-55 Processor CPU Speed 2600mhz Cache Ram 1024k Hyper Transport Frequency [5x] Amd K8 cool n Quiet control [disabled] Dram Timing Mode Auto x Memclock index value (mhz) 400mhz x Cas# latency (tcl) 2.5 x Min Ras# active time (Tras) 5T x Ras# to cas# delay (Trcd) 3T x Row precharge time 2T S/W Dram over 4G Remapping [enabled] Hardware Monitor Vcore voltage [ignored] 3.3v voltage [ignored] 5v voltage [ignored] 12v voltage [ignored] I hope I've got the right settings for you. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks Icetruck.
Garvin
Bravo. Have the crashes stopped? If your wondering why Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 still take quite awhile to load, It's because both games are HUGE and take up an enormance amount of ram space. This is one of the reasons why I decided to go from 1 to 2 gigs of Corsair in the form of dual Twinx kits. With 1 gig I would have to shut alot of background programs down before firing either game up. Now I don't have to; I've even had virus scanner autoupdate windows pop up while in the game. I update while within the game since I'm still hooked to the net, then right-click the mouse and I'm right back in the action with no hiccups. Any of the Nf4 chipset boards are stupendous performers, it's just a matter of getting them set right for each particular combination of hardware. They are not straight out of the box, hook everything up, and go kind of boards. I reloaded Xp four or five times before I had every thing up and running the way I wanted it, i.e. rock solid stabe and blazing fast, and I'm far from new at this. Buying and assembling cutting edge latest and greatest components for a build demands a steep learning curve and alot of research before and during a build. Of the big name brand Ram companies I decide to go with Corsair partially because of this web site, where there's actually useful help and information and not just braggadocio and garbage help. ps: If your having any more problems post back, It still could be your power supply, this setup using non 2.0 compliant power supplies demands big amperage on the +12 volt rail to run stabily. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 11, 2005 Why do you have 4Gig remapping enabled and why are all of the voltages set to Ignore?
Icetruck
Hi, Hope that you are all well. I have had one problem with beeping after reset. It was after I had disabled all the start up programs and services in msconfig. I'm going to try running for a while without the Corsair dashboard just in case my problem has anything to do with that or possibly any other program running in the background. The Bios was set with the S/W Dram over 4G Remapping enabled and voltages set to ignore when I bought the computer. I've now disabled 4g remapping and enabled the voltages. Thanks again everyone, ICE.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 12, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 12, 2005 4G Remapping should be disabled unless you have more than 4.0 Gig of memory and if the voltages were causing a problem, that might suggest a power supply problem and I would suggest changing the PSU as that could cause all sorts of issues. Hi Ram Guy, Thank you very much for the advice. If I get anymore problems I'll change the PSU. Thanks Again. ICE.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 13, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 13, 2005 No problem, ICE please keep an eye on the Voltages as that would cause the problems you have reported.
