SnergleTheDwarf
hi, lately i encountered some problems ... services crash on startup, freeze ups, and something like that ... i took a look into my eventlog and got shocked, about 3 pages with Application hang up (most of them I even didn't recognized) and most of them told about bad memory adresses ... I found about 10 different adresses while parsing the log ... so i search for memtest prog and found one on microsoft ... and made a few runs ... at first eveything looked fine ... but then then the log filled itself ... everytime the same adress and the same err pattern (example): recommend: 010100100 actual: 011100100 023b01010 024b01010 and so on ... everytime the 3bit (left) got an 1 plus ... to verify the results I searched for another memtest prog and found one @ memtest.org ... same errors, same address. my modules are the cmx512-3200LL (2x512 MB = 1GB) and I'm running them on an asus P4C800-E Deluxe ... SiSoft Sandra 2005 Lite tells me they are running @ 2.0-3-2-6 (Bios ist set to use SPD settings). any suggestions of what to do next ? since I come from Germany what is the recommend procedure if I want to make a RMA ? thx for any help mfg SnergleTheDwarf :sunglasse
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 10, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 10, 2005 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then set the following settings and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. And with this MB you need to disable legacy USB when running any memory test. AI Over Clock Tuner: Manual CPU Freq: 200 MHz Memory Frequency: 100%/DDR400 Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts (but if you over clock 2.85 Volts) Resulting Frequency: 200MHz/400DDR Legacy USB: Disabled SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T Then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. I tried these settings ... the first chip got along with 16 errors each pass ... to verify these i used the autosettings from the mobo ... and again 16 errors even the address ... so this seems to be the "bad guy" ... the second one got away with 20.000+ errors  with these settings ... @ test#8 of memtest.org prog (and even crashed it) ... running the test again with autosettings from my mobo and it got away with 0 (zero) errors ... SPD settings tells mobo to use 2.5 cas latency instead of 2.0 ... so i got the impression that this module won't work with 2.0 ... (personal thinking) or does these results mean "Hey I'm also bad guy  " ... so what's next ... as I told you before I'm from germany ... is there an address here where I can send it(them) to within germany ... or do I have to send them to US ??? if shall send them ... what papers do you need along with the modules ? mfg SnergleTheDwarf btw. what should be I set for "burst length" (used 4.0 clocks / 8.0 clocks are also possible) Chip 1: 2.5-3-2-6 (1st Pic) Chip 1: 2.5-3-2-6 (2nd Pic) Chip 1: 2-3-2-6 (3rd Pic) Chip 2: 2-3-2-6 (1st Pic) Chip 2: 2-3-2-6 (2nd Pic) Chip 2: 2.5-3-2-6 (1ndPic) Chip (1st Pic) Chip Label(2nd Pic) Hardware: CPU: P4 3.00Ghz, L2 512KB, FSB 800MHz MB: Asus P4C800-E Deluxe MEMORY: CMX512-3200LL Graphic: NVidia GeForce FX 5950 Ultra (MSI) HDD: 2x 80GB SATA (Seagate) SOUND: Terratec Fun a big SORRY for my bad english ... Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 11, 2005 Did you disable legacy USB in the bios when you ran http://www.memtest.org? And what is the exact CPU you have? according to this it may be a 533 FSB 3.06 CPU is that correct?

And what is the exact CPU you have? according to this it may be a 533 FSB 3.06 CPU is that correct? legacy USB was disabled ...during tests and still is ... and no, it's not a 3.06 but a 3.00 CPU (Northwood, that is what the bill is telling me, with a FSB @ 800MHz) to clearly verify this ... i have to take off the heatsink ... I will do this in the evening ... right now I'm @ work ... ;-) For the RAM Freq. I could only choose between 266, 333 and 400 MHz ... and I took the last Option (400) ... the bios is the last available (2005-03-25, P4ced21.zip) anything else you need to know ? mfg SnergleTheDwarf
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 12, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 12, 2005 Please go to bios setup and load setup defaults and then set these settings manually and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. AI Over Clock Tuner: Manual CPU Freq: 200 MHz System Performance: Auto Memory Frequency: 100%/DDR400 Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts Resulting Frequency: 200MHz/400DDR Legacy USB: Disabled PAM/PAT/MAM: Auto SDRAM CAS Latency: 2T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 2T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T Then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. But you have to diable legacy US in the bios when running any memory test with this MB, and XMS3200C2 modules would need to have the timings set manually as the SPD is set to JEDEC defined values for the IC we use. SnergleTheDwarf
I haven't done the tests yet, but I verifed that the CPU is a 3.00GHz with 512KB L2 Cache and FSB 800MHz ... But I'm puzzled ... XMS3200C2 ... I don't have these modules or are they the same as CMX512-3200LL ??? Btw. after I updated my BIOS the defaluts have been loaded due to reset of CMOS-CHECKSUM ... but I will try it again. anything that helps is welcome ... These settings don't exists within my BIOS: - Memory Frequency: 100%/DDR400 I only can choose: 266, 333, 400 - PAM/PAT/MAM: Auto not Found: What does it means ? - Resulting Frequency: 200MHz/400DDR not Found ... What about the "burst length" ... 4 or 8 clocks ? Standard is set to 4 clocks. I can make some Fotos of my BIOS if you need them ... like the other pictures from memtest. thx so far ... i will try want you mentioned in the evening ... (it's likely that i can't tell the results of these tests before monday ... so please don't get me lost  ) therefore I wish a nice weekend ... and lots of fun ... mfg SnergleTheDwarf
