seifer535
I just upgraded my memory from 512mb DDR266 memory, to 1 gig (2x512mb) of DDR400. With the gig of memory in, everything works fine until i try and start up one of my games (namely half life 2). The game comes up, and about 5 seconds later, i get an error saying that I dont have directx 7 or higher. I have directx 9...I also know that it can't be a hardware problem with either of the sticks themselves, because when i put either of them in alone, they work just fine. When i ran directx diagnostic, the directx 3D test failed miserably, telling me that i was out of memory. The diagnostic also says the approximate total memory of my video card is 2 gigs...which is impossible. When i have a single stick in it tells me that i have only 127mb which is correct since im using a GeForce FX5200 128 mb card. Any ideas on how to fix this problem would be appreciated. Yellowbeard
Could you please list your complete system spex? Also, please list all your bios settings relating to voltages, CPU, and RAM. And, how many total sticks of RAM do you have installed? And, can you list ALL of the numbers on the holographic stickers from EVERY stick of RAM you are using? Mike. Wired
What CPU / FSB / Motherboard do you have? What is the exact part # and revision # of each stick? Is it a TwinX pack? How To Read the Memory Label What is the part # and revision # of the old memory?

Specs-an ECS 865PE-A motherboard, 2.8 ghz intel processor, RAM-What i bought is a value pack from corsair, it contained two sticks of 512mb DDR400 giving me 1 gig. The dimm voltage is set to 2.5v as far as i can tell. Ill restart now and get the other specs for cpu voltage. Also, atm i am using the two sticks of brand new corsair memory i just bought, i am not mixing the old DDR266 with the new DDR400's. And as for the stickers, ill give u the numbers are, VS512MB400C3. and the number under the barcode is 820-0513084-299885. Those are the only two numbers. Maybe for easier reference theres something taht says document # on the back of the package, thats 45-00028. BTW-i dont have an extensive knowledge on most of this stuff, so any dumbed down explanations would be much appreciated.
seifer535
The only info i got from bios that i thought might be helpful is the mem frequency is set to DDR400, and the dram timing selectable is set to by SPD...Otherwise i dont know where to look for the other stuff. Garvin
According to your motherboard manual, as far as I can see, there isn't an option in the bios to increase the vdimm voltage; it defaults to 2.5 volts. No jumpers to change vdimm either. A link to the manual: http://www.ecsusa.com/downloads/downloads_main.cfm?to=Motherboard
