fredmane
Hello! First time poster, long time Corsair fan. Don't know if this is the right place for my question, but since it's about a PSU. It's not necessarily an RMA thread, just a question from a new owner. Recently I purchased a new PSU, the RM650x. It's my first time with a PSU that only activates it's fan when the load increases. Never thought it'd make such a big difference in the noise! Really enjoying it so far. However, every time the fan turns on or shuts down, it makes this noise I'm attaching as an external Google Drive link. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-le79cmgdBVS3Ga1X9H1iPm53HfO_chq/view?usp=drivesdk Is this noise normal, or should I be concerned? I'm not talking about the clicking noise, of course, it's the weird buzzing electrical like sound I'm talking about. I never owned a PSU with this kind of function, so that's why I'm worried if this isn't some sort of short circuit happening or if my power cable is faulty. Thanks! Corsair Employees jonnyguru Posted April 4, 2021 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 4, 2021 So, as the fan spins up, it's making that "zzzzZZZZZZRP" noise in the middle of the recording? You're sure it's coming from the fan because it coincides with the fan spinning up?

You're sure it's coming from the fan because it coincides with the fan spinning up? Yes, precisely. Never heard anything like it. I really doubt it's the HDD... Or is it? :dunno: It's my first time with an RMX, I have no idea what to expect, specially about a feature I never had on any of my PSUs.
Vegan
The zero fan feature can take some time to acclimate to. My box has several fans so there is a dull hum from them as they cool the rig. Not really a problem as the level is very low.

Actually it does sound more like a hard drive than anything else. So, give me a time line to go with that audio clip. You're turning the PC on and the fan is just doing its initial spin and your shutting it off immediately later? So you're not actually waiting for heat/load to turn the fan on to see if you hear the noise again? If this is a noise you're hearing only when you first start up, it could be anything and probably not the PSU and probably is your hard drive. LeDoyen
i only hear a 3 1/2" drive spin up and the creak of the head calibration, then the fan relay clicking off.
Corsair Employees Corsair Elito Posted April 5, 2021 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 5, 2021 Hi, I would suggest testing the PSU without the HDD connected, see if you have the same issue.

Juular
Which hard disk make and model is making so much noise, I have databases I can consult for specs Sounds almost exactly as my Seagate Exos 10TB, i was baffled when i first heard that, never in my life i've encountered a HDD this loud. It also makes the same sound when it spins up after spinning down due to no usage, so i had to disable the HDD sleep timer because this thing kept waking me up at night, the PC is right to my bed.
