Odd USB problem with 5000D case

I plugged in my USB adapter to SATA with a Samsung hard drive on. When I plug it into the yellow ports on the top of the case noting happens, if I plug a normal USB flash card in then that works. If I plug the USB to SATA adapter card on the rear of the mother board then it works there. The Yellow top USB slots are attached to a USB 3 header on the Motherboard which is a Asus Maximus XIII Hero. I guess its a driver problem as the top of case ports work with a normal USB flash drive.

The top USB ports are just normal USB 3.0 ports (we just made them yellow to fit out color theme) - so it is likely it is a driver issue, or that the adapter is not compatible with 3.0 extensions.
