H100i Elite Capellix Pump Failure Warning on startup

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I recently purchased the H100i Elite Capellix and after a couple of days i started getting a Pump Failure Message on startup, which wasnt every day but every 2/3 days, after re-installing the Icue software, as per advice from Corsair support, the problem returned a couple of days later and i returned it for a replacement from the supplier.

After a week of the replacement with no issues, last night on shut down the fans spun up quite fast before the pc power shut off. I didnt think too much of it until this morning on start up just after windows loaded, the fans spun up again and the pump was showing no rpm and i got a pump failure warning. I shutdown the pc and restarted and its been fine since, i have done a couple of shutdowns and startups no issues.

Could anyone shed any light on the issue as I cant believe I would have two faulty pumps in a week? I have the pump running on balanced mode and had no issues at all when the pc is running even after hours of gameplay.

Many thanks

I am sorry to hear you are experiencing trouble with our cooler. This can be caused by a few things. Since you replaced the cooler once I suggest we focus on the system first.

Start by making sure the Tach cable from the pump is plugged in firmly into the CPU_Fan header. Next, ensure that the motherboard sees that there is a cooler installed. If it doesn't you can disable monitoring for CPU_Fan. Then I would make sure your BIOS is up to date, and that Windows, plus your drivers are all installed and Up to date. Try not to use any Windows default drivers if at all possible.

If the issue remains, please create a ticket with our support team, and PM the ticket number to me once you have it.

Hi

Many thanks for your response. I have checked all drivers etc for everything, bios is up to date and everything is connected properly. I havent had the problem since so im hoping it was a one off error. I will contact support directly if it comes back.

Many thanks

I've been having the same problem after my MSI X570 Godlike decided it didn't like my 5950 anymore. I tried to update bios and many other solutions offered for that problem and was forced to reinstall my old MSI B550 Tomahawk. Now everything works great except for that pump failure, which makes no sense because it worked beautifully on that mobo in the past. I've updated drivers and checked every connection to no avail. I don't really see why the pump should have randomly failed as I don't OC very much (just xmp) and my system is very stable.

System:

-MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk

-R9 5950x

-32gb Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro RAM (2x16, 3600mhz)

-MSI/Nvidia RTX 3090 Gaming Trio X

-Corsair H100i Elite Capellix

-Corsair 850RM PSU

-Samsung 970 Evo 1TB M2 SSD

-2TB WD Blue SSD

Has the pump actually failed or are you getting a "false" warning message?  If the pump has failed, you can't use the machine, it will overheat and the MB will safety shut down in 15 seconds and then you won't be able to try again for 2 hours until the heat naturally leaves the stalled water in the CPU block.  If this is happening, that is a real pump failure and a serious issue.  You'll need an alternate cooler and contact Corsair Support immediately to set-up a replacement.

However, there are other reasons for this to appear.  First, a momentary power flicker can cause the software to think this has happened.  Some CUE error messages stay until you actively dismiss them.  Make sure this isn't the same message pinned to the board.

The tachometer cable from the AIO to MB is not required for it to work, but you do need to disable the CPU fan boot error system in your BIOS if nothing is on CPU fan.  As mentioned above, you can deactivate it and remove the tach cable.  The pump speed is shown in CUE regardless of whether that cable is connected.  It's possible a flaw in the wire is sending intermittent signals and causing some confusion.

I have also seen this when hot plugging in devices for testing on the bench.  Try a full system shutdown, flip off the PSU for 15 seconds, then turn on and boot up normally.  This power cycles the Commander Core and sometimes resolves odd errors.

I know this is an old post but I am hoping you will have a solution for my problem.

I am going through the same issue with my H100i Elite Capellix, where I re-applied the thermal paste, connected the wires, booted my PC and forgot that to plug that single tiny AIO RPM/Tachometer cable to the AIO Pump Header on my motherboard. When I realized this, out of panic, I immediately plugged it in my motherboard while my computer was still on.

Now I am getting the error where it says AIO Pump Failure, and the AIO itself along with the fans is continuously blinking/flashing red while the fans hooked to the commander core are running on MAX RPM.

The pump itself is not actually dead, I am getting temps of about 37-41c idle on ym 5950x, the same average temps I got before I even bothered repasting.

I've also gone ahead and turned off the computer, put my head close to the AIO pump and radiator, and upon turning my computer on I can clearly hear water flowing and rushing towards the AIO pump. I've confirmed that it's fully functional, just that I am getting the error in iCUE where it says there is a pump failure and that the lights on the AIO will not stop blinking red, and the fans are running on MAX RPM thinking it's broken.

Is there any way to disable or completely ignore this error message? I've tried power cycling the PC to hopefully get it to work, but I still get the same error every time.

Looking forward to your response.

If you can’t solve this with the power cycle method described above, you need to contact Corsair Support. This has turned into a more serious issue in the 18 months since the original post and is not necessarily an out of the box defect.

I contacted Consair Support and am waiting on a response/RMA.

I'd be interested to know anything else you might know about this issue, c-attack. You seem to know a bit about it.

Unfortunately, I have yet to see a user side solution for this once it starts. This can happen for normal reasons like a defect in the tachometer cable or sensor in the pump. That would be a rare incident and likely present from the first moment of use. However, there was a surge of reports a few months back and I put my H150i Elite Cap on the bench to try and investigate. I was greeted with this new red triangle “false pump failure” as well and I have never been able to correct it.

The origin of this issue is unknown, but it gets complicated because some of the LCD top issues crossover. Try the power cycle and re-seat if using the top. If you are on a standard model, all you can really do here is power cycle and reconnect the power cable from pump to Commander Core. One user reported success by setting their MB header for the tach cable to 100%, but that should not matter as that line is RPM only. I never connect mine since it runs on the bench not mounted and tachometer connection status was immaterial.

Hello, I'm having the exact same problem, do you have any success fixing this problem?

Ok so the issue is just a false error in most cases all you have to do is go into updates and force update the pump and that willl reset the error the most common cause for this error is a software like signal rgb  just though i would ping everyone at the same time

Try the power cycle trick. Most users are not able to access the pump in cue to force a firmware update. Corsair Support may be able to help you side load the firmware if that is a viable solution. Apparently there are two different MCUs out there, so you need to be careful about blindly loading random firmware. If you are not able to solve this with a short bit of power down and cable connection checking, get on to Corsair Support. There is no reason to wait.

A real pump failure will be a dramatic event. Fans immediately ramp up at boot and you have 30-60 seconds before the motherboard will trigger an emergency shutdown for cpu temp. Then you are unable to try to boot again because the trapped liquid in the cpu block is at 60C and must wait hours for it to naturally dissipate. You can easily discern the communication fail vs the pump motor fail by looking at cpu temp. When it’s a pump fail gpu temp rapidly skips upwards… 45..50..55..60..65..etc.  With this communication issue the cpu temp will remain low or normal and the system is fully operational aside from the inability to change settings/RGB.

I just found this thread. I am having the same issue. Tried all of the suggestions. Forced the firmware update. Everything went back to normal and the LCD screen returned to my preferred settings. Then 20 seconds later, the failure logo appeared and fans are flashing. The pump has NOT failed. Holds steady at 25⁰C. Tried this twice more. Same result.

Hello,

I am having the same issues as everyone in this thread.
When I start my PC everything runs fine for about 10 seconds, and then the LED on the pump box starts flashing red and all the fans go at 100%.

I've done all the recommended troubleshooting.

Checking wires, and rewiring, and rewiring.

Updating software, and BIOS

Uninstalling iCue and reinstalling, force updating the cooler software.

iCUE recognizes my cooler, but there us a pump failure warning .

I've put a ticket in with Corsair - but no word yet.
I'm extremely discouraged

Unfortunately this is usually terminal. Regardless of whether the pump fail is genuine or false, that warning in CUE warning locks you out of all controls. I don’t know if any user side fix once this starts happening.

You’ve already started a support ticket. If this is a new purchase you may have exchange options with the vendor as well.

Same exact here. Somebody please provide the fix. Should i just buy another cooler?

If you get the pump failure warning in CUE but the pump is still running (cpu temp not rapidly climbing), you need to contact Corsair Support for replacement. That is a very specific defect that does not have a remedy.

If your cpu and coolant temp are rapidly climbing when you power on and genuinely trigger the alarm, we can check power delivery and connections. That issue may or may not be solvable on the user side. But there are things to try.

This issue drove me nuts. I bought a new cooling system, opened tickets with both asus and Corsair. No one knew what was wrong. Plugged a fan into the the cpu fan, the aio cooler. Swapped back into my old system, hoping I could isolate the problem. Error kept coming up, pump failure. With both units. All of these swaps I kept using the same command core. I assumed it could not be the problem. Finally, swapped the command core out. Problem fixed. Faulty command core. I expect since the system is still under warranty I’ll get the authorization to send back the faulty unit. Just for those searching for a solution on this, it appears the command core can and does fail. It could be something else for you, but before going through hours of rerouting cables, change out your command core.
