figelwump
Hello, I currently have a stick of CMX512-3200C2 (version 1.1) in my system. I am looking to buy another stick of the same memory. Unfortunatetly the online retailer I'm trying to buy from does not know what the version of the memory is, and they don't seem to want to take the effort to look for the version info on the module. How important is the version compatibility? Have there been any recent revisions of this memory module, or is version 1.1 pretty much it? Thanks
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 4, 2005 Rev 1.1 has not been produced for more than a year, so it will be hard to find. And it's verry important with some Mb's the system may not post if the modules are not matched. I would suggest maybe trying to find another use for this module and just get a Twinx set of modules for best performance.
figelwump
Yikes! While I would love to buy a twinx set, I don't really have the funds for this. Are there any other options? If it helps, the motherboard I have is ASUS P4S8X. Any experience with mixing versions with this motherboard (or similar asus boards)? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 4, 2005 Not really, but you would need to run DDR333 with this MB and I would maybe try and find a module that matched yours from a friend that has upgraded.
figelwump
What do you think about running the VS 2x512 mb PC3200 pair with this motherboard (VS1GBKIT400)? I see this memory referred to as "dual channel"? Is that a special technology that needs motherboard support?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 5, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 5, 2005 Value Select modules would be a great choice with this MB, just not wuite as fast as our XMS modules. But this chipset will show littel difference with memory bandwidth between V/S and XMS.
