Add 3rd ML120 to H100i Platinum

Recommended Posts

Have just ordered a H100i Platinum for my new build. I don't have a lightning node pro, RGB hub, or a commander pro.

My questions are...

- can I add a third ML120 RGB (as a case exhaust fan) to the AIO so they in sync, without the above modules?

- can I use Y splitter cables for both RGB and PWM?

- Or, just use Y splitter off the RGB lead and use the motherboard for PWM?

- Is the RGB lead of corsairs own special type or used industry wide?

You will require the additional hardware in order to connect and control the RGB of the third fan.

Mind sharing why technically a RGB splitter cable wouldn't work?

You will have two fans sharing a splitter that will be copies of each other. This will work for static or non-sequential lighting patterns, but with a substantial limitation on fan to fan effects. Not everyone would consider that synchronized and obviously not officially supported.

PWM control is more straightforward. You can put the two radiator fans as a pair on Ch 1 and the rear exhaust on Ch 2. Those operate independently, so you can set a different curve for the rear fan. Also not officially supported, but the ML fans have a low enough current draw to make it acceptable.
