SkayRexX
Hello, I have a question, I changed the thermal paste after 1 years on my processor with a H1151 pump but I think it was a bad idea... My processor going to +100°C max now If i'm playing to a big game like red dead redemption 2 in full ultra graphics. What I need to do ? Buy an other thermal paste like the Thermal Grizzly Hydronaut 12,50W/mk ? Or maybe just get an other H1151 with the guarantee because the thermal paste before can't be find on the market or have an equivalent ? Thanks to help me :( Greetings, SkayRexX Edited February 12, 2021 by SkayRexX
DevBiker
It sounds more like you have a mounting issue. While paste can make a difference, it usually is just a degree or two. Mounting issues are bigger issues. And it's easy to have one when you change out paste. Some other questions though - What is your vCore? What is your pump temp? My vCore is at 1.021W in the bios and my pump is to 35°C without gaming. I'm not in a room with some cold temperature, so it's for this reason I changed the thermal paste after 1 years... For information it's not the only problem. I don't know why but now my grahics card fans still to 0 RPM or turn sometimes to +1000 RPM and after 10 sec stop to 0... Never had this problem before I change the thernal paste... (Sorry for my bad english)
DevBiker
Well, the vCore in the BIOS doesn't matter unless it's at 100C in the BIOS. What is the ambient (room) temp? And did you change the paste on the GPU? That actually sounds like normal GPU fan behavior, tbh.

My room turn around 20-25°C I forget to say than I have chosen this thermal paste : Corsair XTM50 5W/m K... For the GPU, yes finally when i'm in game the fan turn together between to 1200 - 2500 RPM and sometimes one is to +4000 RPM and the other still +2000 RPM so i think it's ok. SkayRexX
I use Arctic MX-4 which seems to last longer than the service life of hardware Mmh, I think i will leave like that and see what happening in the futur. I think if i have any problems, the PC will shutdown for the security and i will change the thermal when the time comes... Or I need to change fast the thermal before for not have any problems ? CdrRogue
I'd try reseating the cooler, it might be misaligned or not secured properly. One year though? I've never had to reapply thermal paste to any of my PC's over several years of use. Seems unnecessary, unless AIO paste dries out quicker? I fixed the cooler properly with a screwdriver and I made sure that the paste covers the process well... Mmh, when I change the thermal paste, the original paste was dry. It's for this reason I changed it... Like I said my pc is in a hot room I think the PC warms up fast... Now, I would like to know if the thermal paste than I have chosen is good or I need to change it again ? In a website I saw than a processor can go to 100°C and it's normal... My processor is continuous between 40-90°C... Edited February 8, 2021 by SkayRexX
Corsair Employees Corsair Travis Posted February 8, 2021 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 8, 2021 As long as you have thermal paste, it should not be reaching 100c with what you have said. Check your mounting, and be sure the pump is plugged in.

I made sure to screw the whole thing back on so that it fits well and I think that resolve my problem. When i'm launching big games or programm, the processor will go to ⁓70°C now otherwise it turning between 40-60°C So I think my problem is resolve and i'm good to change the paste the next year  Thanks you for your help
LeDoyen
you don't need to change it unless temperatures start to creep up. If it ain't broken, don't fix it ^^
