bryz
Hey everyone, I was hoping you could help me with 2 questions. Would the RM850x be enough to handle a 5950x and RTX3090? Also, If I wanted to upgrade to the RM1000x in the future would it be a straight swap with the RM850x as in could I just remove the unit and use the same cables? Thanks, bryz

Thanks, bryz Depending on the 3090 card you purchase it will easily be able to pull 360-390watts alone without overclocking. If you plan on overclocking you will be better off with the RM1000x if its between those two PSUs to make sure you have the appropriate headroom instead of potentially bumping up against the maximum of the lower wattage PSU constantly which can cause it to fail. bryz
Thank you for the informed reply :) I wouldn't be overclocking so the 850x should be fine for me. Just out of curiosity though could you swap out the 850x PSU and use the 1000x PSU with the same wiring?

Just out of curiosity though could you swap out the 850x PSU and use the 1000x PSU with the same wiring? With a 3090 and the transient loads it can cause you may still see issues with the 850watt. Also yes all RMx series PSUs use the same Type 4 cables.
