Limey
Hi, I have a matched pair of TWINX512-4000 (2 pieces of 256MB 500MHz DIMM) purchased from zipzoomfly.com just over 30 days ago. they have been running fine at 166MHz FSB (underclocked) until I purchased a new, more capable CPU with a higher FSB speed, at which point the memory refused to work unless the memory FSB was underclocked to 200MHz 400MHz DDR rate appears to be the fastest I can get the memory to run, and even then the system will not manage to pass 24 hours of the prime95 test that stresses memory. If I try to run the memory at anything over 200MHz FSB, the system will not even POST on my Asus A7N8X deluxe v2 - the BIOS voice states that memory failed POST and CMOS must be cleared. regardless of CPU FSB the memory still fails - for example I could set the CPU FSB underclocked and the memory FSB to a percentile or multiple of CPU FSB with this Asus board, no matter what FSB the CPU is at, the memory will not POST at anything higher than 200MHz for example 125MHz CPU FSB on a CPU capable of 400, (such as an Athlon 3200+) with Memory speed set to 200% of FSB will not POST I have tried latency/interleave as low as 12 4 4 3 and this does not help to gain any MHz over 400 DDR
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 2, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 2, 2005 LOL! I am sorry but this platform will not run with the memory frequency set to 200%. You must set the memory Frequency at 100 % and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts as well.
Limey
LOL! I am sorry but this platform will not run with the memory frequency set to 200%. You must set the memory Frequency at 100 % and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts as well. <sigh> I can truly sympathize if you have to answer queries from clueless people all day long, but if you read my post you'll see that I state the memory is running at 200MHz The memory has never worked at anything higher than 200MHz The memory is set to 100% FSB and the Dimm voltage is at 2.8v the 200% statement was an example test to show that the system still fails when underclocking the CPU with the memory set to 250MHz, (2x125=250) sorry if this caused confusion. The memory causes errors from 200-225 and fails to POST necessitating a CMOS clear on the mainboard if 225-250MHz is attempted
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 3, 2005 Please tell me the exact settings you had set for memory and CPU and the default CPU speed and its FSB.
Limey
Please tell me the exact settings you had set for memory and CPU and the default CPU speed and its FSB. 198x10.5 Memory set at 100% 8 4 4 3 as per corsair directions, though I increased the precharge setting to 10, so it's now 10 4 4 CAS3 2.8V The memory is the definite bottle neck here, as stated I can underclock my CPU, but running the memory at a multiple of FSB that takes it over 200MHz will fail, this might as well be some $77 value PC3200 and I could have saved $70 now at 198FSB since the weather got warmer it rebooted on me while under load - the CPU is water cooled and runs at 47C/116F Same results with a Barton 3000+ 400MHz FSB, Barton 2500+ (unlocked multipliers - overclocks to 2400MHz) and a Throughbred B 1700+ the memory is the common (failing) denominator here. Here is a picture that depicts the current settings; http://mcoley.com/settings.gif
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 11, 2005 So what CPU and MB are you using?
Limey
So what CPU and MB are you using? As mentioned in the first post it's an Asus A7N8X deluxe V2 I've also tried all the CPUs listed above, but primarily I'm using an Athlon XP 3000+ with a 400MHz front side bus. Limey
Please call our tech support and we will try to help you with the correct settings. 888-222-4346 and choose option "2"! Short of modding the system board to provide more Dimm Voltage, I doubt there's anything that will make the memory work above 200MHz, in addition if, "correct settings" implies completely retarding the memory beyond the high latency settings it already has as stock, then I'm begnning to think I don't even want the memory anyway and that I should have bought some high quality CAS2 PC3200 I've learned my lesson. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted May 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 11, 2005 Limey I have asked you too call for a few reasons, one of witch is when you have multiple systems and CPU's it complicates this drastically and rather than trying and guess what you are using I think it would be best to have you talk to our Tech support and lets make sure you don’t have a failing module. Our hours are from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM Pacific Time Monday Thru Friday Excluding Holidays.
