drujo19
Hello, While gaming, I am experiencing memory read errors. This happens anywhere after 20 minutes of playing. It has never happened while doing trivial operations such as word processing, listening/watching media. I have: Two(2) cmx1024-3200pt sticks which I run in duel channel mode Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe Motherboard I have tried running on one stick at a time and the same error occurs for both of them. Bios recognizes both sticks and has them running at appropriate settings. I have reformatted and reinstalled all drivers, which leans me away from software errors. ++Edit++ I have also run Troubleshooter, but no errors in the ram were found. I will download the program you are prescribing everyone and attempt that as well++ The readout on the Ram is as follows: CMX1024-3200pt XMS3200v3. 1 XMS3200 1024MB 400Mz 3.3.3.8 0449007-1 Any help that you could give me would be much appreciated. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 27, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 27, 2005 Getting errors with both modules would suggest some other problem. Can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? drujo19
After running the memcheck for the last 24 hours there are no errors present, which leads me to agree with your assessment of another source of the problem. But im stuck on what it could be... if you wouldnt mind further helping me i would appreciate it, or should i refer my problem to my other hardware support forums? drujo19
First, i appreciate your help on this subject; it is really aiding me in my troubleshooting Secondly, i am running an AMD Athlon Xp 2500+, with an external frequency of 166Mhz, and a Multiple of x11.0. This is on auto adjust and i know it is a bit high for the processor. I have attempted to lower the multiple through all settings as far down as x7.0 and the same error has persisted. (This is one of the reasons i was leaning towards RAM errors.)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 28, 2005 With that CPU you wouuld need to run the memory at DDR333 or in sync with your CPU or will cause a bottelneck in the chipset and may generate errors that are not the fault of the memory. Please try these settings set manually and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org. CPU Freq: 166 MHz System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts Resulting Frequency: 166MHz SDRAM CAS Latency: 3T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T And if you have 2 modules you will want them in slots 2-3 as well
drujo19
Thank you again. All of the timing features were what i had them set at, in fact the only thing i changed was upping the ddr voltage by .1 to 2.7, and lowering the resulting frequency. I was under the impression that the memory was able to be run at 200 (doubled to 400) and the chipset would support that, it would be the optimal setting for performance. i have reduced it to 166 and i will run the memtest overnight. Thanks once more.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 29, 2005 No problem! Many of the MB makers are not quick to point out limitations, as I think they feal it will detract you from buying the product. But this is a chipset limitation. If the FSB of your CPU is 400 For Intel and 100 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports only DDR 266. If the FSB of your CPU is 533 For Intel and 133/166 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 266/333. If the FSB of your CPU is 800 MHz for Intel and 200 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 333/
