Need help with RAM choices for Ryzen

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I am in the processing of sourcing all the parts to build myself a new desktop. Everything else was easy to decided and purchased but I am having trouble to pick a memory that's best bang for the buck and it won't be a problem working with my system. My core system as follow

MB: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Wi-Fi

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (I'll be upgrading this next year when 5000 series becomes more available)

My questions are

1. With upcoming CPU upgrade in mind, should I just get DDR4 3600 or stick with DDR4 3200? Pricing wise they are almost the same.

2. Does have b-die matter if I don't plan on overclock memory?

3. Some kits specifically say AMD Ryzen ready (i.e. CMK16GX4M2Z3600C18) while some kits specifically say XMP 2.0 (i.e. CMK16GX4M2D3600C18), I know XMP is an Intel thing but most X570 boards seem to support it anyway, should I stick with the Ryzen ready ones or does it not matter?

4. I've read that some have problem getting DDR4 3600 to work properly in system, with ease of configuration and stability in mind, is DDR4 3200 a better choice?

Much appreciated for the help, thanks.

1. depends on kit. 3200C16 and 3600C18 are pretty much the same except bandwidth whereas 3200C14 > 3600C18 while 3200C16 < 3600C16

2. no, youd be wasting money then

3. doesn't really matter in that range

4. check QVL and choose a kit from there. if it's on there, it will work in 99 of 100 cases
