DevilMayCry
I have a Shuttle XPC SB83G5 with a Pentium 4 530 3.0 GHz processor. I originally had a set of TWINX512-3200C2PT ram in this PC, which worked flawlessly. I recently upgraded to a pair of TWINX1024-3200XLPT which is when all of my troubles started. So far, I have had to RMA for a replacement due to the ram failing memtest 86 v3.2 once already. Now it looks like I am going to have to request another RMA for the replacement ram. After I installed the ram, I started running memtest 86 v3.2 on it to make sure it was working correctly. I started the test and walked away for an hour. As I was coming back, the computer was rebooting. Further testing found memory errors and for some reason, the computer would reboot randomly here and there. So I decided to check my voltage settings in the bios. The voltage options that I have in the bios are 2.6, 2.7, 2.8, 2.9 and auto. According to the hardware monitor when set to auto it was putting out 2.63v. So I boosted the voltage to 2.8v, which according to the hardware monitor is putting out 2.73v. This helped the situation a little bit, I was no longer getting reboots when trying to go into the OS, but I was still getting some errors and reboots with memtest. So I boosted the voltage to 2.9 which according to the hardware monitor is putting out 2.83v. I am no longer getting random reboots in memtest 86, but now I am getting more errors. I have sent a request for an RMA for this ram, but I have two questions. As this is the second set of TWINX1024-3200XLPT that I am trying to use with this PC, is this ram compatible with the SB83G5? Is it safe to operate the ram at a voltage of 2.73v or 2.83v? Or is there a better setting that I can use? Ignore the stuff at the top of the page, it's an error (not a DDR2 board!). Is it safe to operate the ram at a voltage of 2.73v or 2.83v? Or is there a better setting that I can use? Tested @ 2.7x volts, warrantied up to, but not over, 2.9 volts.
