core-logic
hey guys, just a little concerned with my rig consisting of: A64 3500+ newcastle abit av83rd eye mobo 1gb twinx 3200xl pro enermax 470w noisetaker zalman 7700cu wd 120gb sata + 160gb seagate pata (anything else i miss? please feel free to ask) now, my problem is: if i use both sticks in dual channel mode, i get random crashes, reboots, BSODS....prime95 on max heat/power fails after 3 seconds...i get restarts on idle... but, when i take out 1 dimm, it's 100% stable, does all primes fine, never crashes or locks up on me, no bsods. but if i use the other dimm, i get bsods during bootup, or right after i login to XP, it restarts or hangs or comes up with some stupid error- basically never reaches the stage where i can actually use my pc i am suspecting a dud DIMM? what do u guys think? any suggestions will be welcome...thanks!! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 21, 2005 Please make sure that you set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure.
core-logic
thanks for speedy reply :) how many passes of memtest do i need? also. do i just use default settings or is there any specific settings you want me to use?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 21, 2005 Just use the default tests in memtest and 2-3 passes should be enough to show a bad module.
core-logic
bingo...or should it be damn? 3 errors...test 7 found the flaws...but this is only on the DIMM that caused the BSODS and all...im yet to test the other DIMM. shall post further updates :)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 21, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 21, 2005 If the other module tests O.K. then lets get them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! But if you get the same type of error with the other module that might suggest some other problem.
core-logic
hmm...where would be the closest place to send it within australia? or do i have to send it to the US?
Wired
Contact your reseller to see if they will RMA it. Mention to them that all of Corsair's overseas distributors are set up to handle RMAs for Corsair. They may not know this. If your reseller refuses, contact Corsair's Customer Service Department and they can find out whom your reseller's distributor is and help you out with the process. core-logic
hmm..i visited 1 of the distributors today..wasnt too helpful- but they did test it for me, athough i doubt the guy tested the right dimm since i didnt clearly mark it..i just pointed out that the "bad" dimm had a few small white marks on the LED top thing. must i return it to my reseller's distributor? or can i return to any distributor? also, i did what the guy said- run on cas 2.5..so far rock solid...but that means i paid a premium for similar performance that i can achieve with generic ddr at less than half the cost. am i entitled to RMA for this? (the "good" dimm will work by itself at 2-2-2-5, but the "bad" dimm wont even boot to a useable state at 2-2-2-5, so i must run it at 2.5-2-2-5 to ensure it boots properly. this also means i have to run the pair in DC mode at a disappointing 2.5-2-2-5 :[pouts: )

core-logic
ahh... its been months since i last replied! errm.. i guess i only recently found time to take the ram back to the shop.. been bogged down with school :( finally i received my kit yesterday :D much anticipated arrival- took 2.5 weeks.. wasnt that long i guess haha.. i got v1.2 dimms though.. but ive got another problem now... i still get random BSODs, program crashes, failed Prime95s.. ive tried running them at cas2.5, 2t, pumping more vdimm, swapping the dimms around... nothing seems to work.. any suggestions? ive memtested them both individually and they both pass without any errors... (this is all in dual channel mode) ive read up about a dodgy memory controller on my cpu =| apparently on older a64 cores, they have a dodgy memory controller which doesnt like low latency ddr :( i really hope the chances of that are low.. *sighh*
