Help needed on Memory settings

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have Just purchased a new amd 64 3200 winchester cpu with the dfi nf4 ultra d motherboard.

Now I have allready updated the bios to the newest update, these are the settings I have changed so far.

cpc disabled

cas 2.5

tred 3

trp 3

tras 6

I also changed the dram to 2.8 that is the same setting as vdimm correct ?

now my problem is this, I have 4 chips, 2 pair of Twin cmx256a- 3200c2

now one pair is version 1.1 and the other is version 3.1

No matter how I configure them will the system see 1 gb. only 512mb, and I have tried both of them separate and boot detect by them self.

What Can I do ? or any help would be nice

Thanks Dan

update. I think I have confirmed the problem, being that both twinx pairs are diffrent version they dont work together, meaning if I mix them it only detects one stick of the 2, is there a way I can send the one pair in to get the same version I have with the other pair ? let me know.

I am sorry but no we do not have a way to order them by revision. And if you do an RMA they may send back the same revison as was recieved. You are welcome to make a request to our customer service, but this is not a warranty issue as we only gaurente one set of module at the tested settigs.

And you would need to do this by phone only.

Please either call our customer service at 888-222-4346 and dial "0" or follow the link in my signature "If you have submitted the RMA using the on line form and have not got a reply!"

Ok fine, But actually I had the one pair rma a few months a go and just never realized that a diffrent version number was sent back to me, as they worked in my intel board, but not in my new amd 64 board,

I guess I want to know if this is a commen or known issue, or even if I purchased another twinx with the same revision would it not detect the full 1 gb,

any info and asap would be Helpfull.

With AMD 64 the memory controller is in the CPU and would need to have all of the modules be identical. With Intel based chipsets the memory controller is in the chipset and memory timings are loaded when the bios is initialized where as with AMD64 the memory timings are read before the bios is loaded.

So I just got back from 2 local computer stores, they did not have the same version as me, was looking for 1.1 or 3.1, so I decided to splurge and buy twinx 1gb 2 512mb stick model 3200c2 version 1.4,

and would like to know the best settings for my sitution.

ohh ya ok I see what your saying, but the thing is I am only using the 2 512 3200 c2 twinx version 1.4 that I had to buy, so for sure I should be able to run ddr 400 correct. who is the manufacture of this chip, is it samsung ?
