searchkaine
Hi, I just bought the H115i Platinum, temps are great with the quiet profile (idle 28-30), but even at the quiet setting I can hear the pump (~1900rpm) in my Cooler Master H500. It's still the loudest part in my PC. It would be great if Corsair could add another profile (ultra quiet or something) with even lower rpm 1200-1500 or so. If thats not possible, are there any possibilties to dim the voltage to get lower rpm? thanks
c-attack
The 1900 rpm low speed is the one Corsair added after release. 2300-2400 rpm was the original low. You might see if you like it better on balanced. Other users report unexpected noise at the “Quiet” speed and there is a reason you can’t just turn it down to whatever you want. There is a point where functionality is compromised.
searchkaine
Already tried all 3 modes, for me balanced is the loudest of all and not useable. Would be interesting what's the lowest possible rpm for desktop/web surfing. I think a bit lower than 1900 rpm would be almost silent then. c-attack
If you have the option to return it, you might consider exchanging it for the Corsair H115i Pro (not H115i Pro XT). It is made with a different partner manufacturer and it is the only Corsair unit to have an ultra low "quiet desktop" speed of 1100 rpm. That has a clear temperature penalty for extended load, but might be what you're looking. Also of note, the Platinum is the only cooler that comes with RGB fans and its own lighting controller. If you go to the Pro, it will come with two ML140 "quiet" fans mean to provide a low noise profile. The RGB ring is a single LED section and not addressable RGB like the Platinum, so the LED pattern complexity is lower. All of these add up to a lower price point than the Platinum. searchkaine
Thanks for the info, just read about it, the Pro has an Asetek and the Platinum a CooIt pump. Previously I had a Alphacool Eisbaer LT AIO, it was a lot quieter, but only lasted 1 year now (leak). As I needed a quick replacement I took the next best available AIO from my local electronic store. I don't really care about the RGB stuff, much more important is quiet desktop mode for me. Just wondering how hard it would to implement a quiet desktop profile for the CooIt pump...? If it's technically not possible, I'm going to replace it. Maybe someone of Corsair could clarify that. Pocah
In passing one thing I would like to see is the ability for iCEU to switch to the higher mode triggered by an event ( such as me playing a game and the CPU temperature going above say 50 degrees ). searchkaine
Short update, had a closer look a my case. Somehow the case under the desk was resonating with the pump. Had some washing machine anti vibration pads left, took them under the PC. It's much quieter now, but still would like to hear if a lower rpm profile is possible. c-attack
I think it is extremely unlikely there would be a further reduction of the pump speed on the Platinum/XT series. They already did it once and it didn't necessarily work out as everyone would like. There's no free lunch. So theoretically, if you make the CPU block denser to take off another 2C, you then would need to more flow rate to get the coolant through. The Pro series was the "quiet" option created after years of complaints the prior generation was too loud, fans too noisy, etc. Then the complaints about the Pro are the fans aren't fast enough, not "high performance enough", and not RGB. So they make the Platinum. The complaints are it's too loud, too expensive. Round and round we go. If lowest possible idle, quiet work environment noise is your prime consideration, the Pro series is the one. I used the H115i Pro for quite a while and it was an excellent cooler. It was quiet when I needed it to be and could always handle my CPU clocked as high it would go.
searchkaine
I think for the moment the noise level is ok for me. If it starts bothering me, I will look for the pro version. Thanks for the help.
