bestmancajun
AMD 3800+ @64 Abit AV83rd-eye Corsair Twinx1024-3200ll Maxtor Raid 0 6b300so BFG 6800gt 550W True Power When I clear cmos and boot with memory modules using dual channel DIMM’s system hangs right away with post OC. When I clear cmos and boot with a single stick memory the memory test shows that it’s clocked at 166Mhz. When I use a single stick of ram I can make it into bios to correct ram frequency. With proper frequency I can run system at the most demanding latencies. I can’t boot with dual channel DIMM’s if they’re clocked that low. I run into instabilities with my two modules in single channel as well. I’ve tried multiple bios’s and every solution my MB manufactures forums could provide. I can’t make it into bios in dual channel or single channel. The mother board and processor are brand new. I was on a KV8-pro with a 3000+ overclocked 2.4Ghz at 1T 2,3,2,10. I’ve learned my lessons on that board. That is very similar board and I had the AV8 running great for about 2 weeks until I get this random reboot never to start in dual channel again. Please help. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 18, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 18, 2005 Can you test the modules in another system?
bestmancajun
No, I don't have another board that has dual channel that I could use for a test. Here's I link to show you what I've tried, it's to the abit forums http://forum.abit-usa.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=81982
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 19, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 19, 2005 We can try replacing your modules if you like. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
bestmancajun
I don’t want to RMA good modules wasting your and my time. Then two weeks later be exactly where I started. I’ve tested both modules individually with memtest86 and Goldmemory at proper latencies and frequencies with no errors. I have trouble booting with both modules in single channel and can not run proper latencies on that setup. But with relaxed timings pass memtest and goldmemory with no errors. I had these modules running fine and doubt there bad. I had them running great on this current machine and old computer as well. I’m going to rma if it’s the last resort. I understand that this could be related to cpu. I think it’s a damaged memory controller and I’m being ignored at the amd forums. I’m using my cpu to write this post right now and that’s why I’m so confused. Do you have any symptoms I could use to diagnose this as a cpu problem? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 20, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 20, 2005 You might call AMD's tech support and see if they can help you with that!
bestmancajun
Is it normal from a clear cmos for these modules to boot at 166Mhz?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 25, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 25, 2005 That might suggest a power problem or a MB/Bios issue. Do you have the Dim Voltage set to 2.7 or 2.8 Volts? If not you migth try that. And I would check with the MB maker for the latest bios and see if that helps. bestmancajun
I have a 550W with 30A on the 12+V rail. I’ve tried with only essential peripherals as well. I’ve tried every bios but the problem persist through each. With modules in dual channel I can’t boot to bios, so no changes to voltages can be achieved. I read the Abit forums regularly and have done all I can there. I’ve been overclocking a KV8 for about six months now and this AV8 is practically identical. I can test hardware else where but I must pay for services. When I use these modules on my KV8 and the AV8 (single channel) the modules boot at 166Mhz from a cleared cmos. Is this normal for DDR400 modules to do that with 64bit processors?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 26, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 26, 2005 That really depends on how ABIT set their bios up. But if the modules will run and pass http://www.memtest.org one at a time I think I would try and RMA the CPU based on what you have posted.
