stormspotter
Hello, I just purchased a VS1GBKIT400 from zipzoomfly and tested it with memtest86 right after I put it in. My computer specs are: DFI NFII Ultra Infinity (Nforce2 chipset) Athlon XP 1800+ I'm running with the BIOS defaults for FSB and cpu speed, which is 133Mhz. I have not altered the speed settings - simply went into the menu to see what it said it was running after doing it's auto-detection. I am seeing errors in memtest86 even though it is running at DDR266 instead of DDR400. Can I get a replacement for this? Thanks, Jacob

stormspotter
Hello RamGuy, I tried the settings you suggested and tested them with memtest86 one stick at a time. The first time I let it run while I was away from the house, so it ran for 2:53:00. The second time I stopped it before it even made it through the first pass because of how many errors it was showing. Here's the results: Stick 1: Pass 2, Test 5 208.2MB224.2MB [*]Pass 8, Test 4 208.2MB Stick 2: Pass 0, Test 1 [*]Pass 0, Test 5 464.9MB - 2 errors480.9MB - 2 errors [*]Pass 0, Test 6 480.8MB Any thoughts? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 18, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 18, 2005 Please make sure that you have the latest BIOS for your MB and load Setup/Optimized default settings, and try the following BIOS settings; VS1GBKIT400 or VS512MB400 CPU Freq: 133 MHz (266 FSB) System Performance: User Define Memory Frequency: 100% Resulting Frequency: 133 MHz (266 FSB) Memory Timing: User Define SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T DDR Reference Voltage: 2.7 Volts AGP Voltage: Default *unless you have ATI (9200 or 9600) or NVIDIA (5200 or 5700) then 1.6 Volts suggested!* All other settings are motherboards defaults Then please test them one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and let’s make sure it's not some other issue! stormspotter
Hello, I updated my BIOS to the latest version from 11/24/2004. I tested stick #2 for an hour and then let stick #1 run the test overnight. Also, I set AGP voltage to 1.6 volts, as I do have a 9200SE in this machine. I should also mention that I am putting ram from a different manufacturer in this computer in between tests, so that I can post to this forum, etc. Using the settings you specified, and testing the sticks one at a time, here are the results: Stick #1: Pass 2, Test 3480.4MB - 82 errors Stick #2: Pass 10, Test 5 [*]Pass 17, Test 4 208.2MB - 3 errors [*]Pass 27, Test 5 208.2MB224.2MB Anything else? stormspotter
Thanks. Just one more question before I follow the link to get an RMA. Since these were effectively DOA, I really don't want to have to pay shipping on them. The cost of shipping is more than the difference to buy ram from Corsair's competitors. Is there anything that can be worked out here? Thanks again, Jacob
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 20, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 20, 2005 Jacob, It would be really hard to get 2 failing modules from us, my suggestion was to try replacing the modules for trouble shooting reasons, but I have reservations as to weather or not that will solve the problem. In addition, you would need to talk to your reseller about shipping costs, all we can do is replace the modules. But you would need to send them in to us and we will pay to ship them back to you. Sorry!
stormspotter
So, I guess a dead motherboard would explain why the replacement ram works perfectly? Seriously, the only change was getting the VS1GBKIT400 replaced and now memtest even works with both sticks installed and Dual Channel support enabled. I have not bothered to test the sticks individually, as they worked great when they were installed together. Memtest ran for a total of 8 hours and 20 minutes and did 13 passes, with 0 errors. Also, I used a SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS) setting of 7T as you first recommended, instead of the 8T you had me use later.
