Juic3
Hi, I was wondering how the Corsair VS kits would work on my Dimension 4600, it currently runs a 2.4 Ghz Pentium 4 with 533 Mhz FSB, the kits Im looking at are the "VS1GBKIT400" and "VS1GBKIT400C3" Id like to know if theres any problem or would they just work fine running at 333Mhz of course because of the FSB of my processor, would it actually downgrade to 333 or would it just not POST :[pouts: My other question was whats the difference between the two kits, on newegg it says "VS1GBKIT400C3" is a dual channel kit with a CAS 3 and "VS1GBKIT400" is just a dual pack with CAS 2.5, Im leaning towars the last one because its at a lower price, what would you recommend ? Will it still run at Dual Channel ? Which CAS LAtency would work ? Im asking all of these because I did a search and people seem to have similar problems. I would of course remove the RAM that is on the PC now and just run the new Corsair memory. Thanx.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 6, 2005 With this system or any OEM system, in most cases you cannot use faster memory or they will not post. I would suggest you use VS1GBKit333 for best compatibality and you may need to remove the modules that came with your system as well.
Juic3
You mean until I replace the CPU for one that supports the faster RAM at 800 mhz FSB ? So no "real" idea or experience with this system :[pouts:
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 6, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 6, 2005 Yes exactly! If the FSB of your CPU is 400 For Intel and 100 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports only DDR 266. If the FSB of your CPU is 533 For Intel and 133/166 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 266/333 If the FSB of your CPU is 800 MHz for Intel and 200 MHz for AMD, the memory speed supports DDR 333/
