maxa
I have two pieces of TWINX1024-3200LLPT (= 4 modules overall) in my dual Opteron board, one pair per CPU. This setup worked flawlessly for over a year. Just recently, without any changes, the system started to act up -- I'm getting random hard hangs (numlock not working anymore) and crashes during startup and bios setup. I've narrowed down the problem to the memory pair with serial number 214. If I remove this pair from the system it runs stable again for days (until I turn it off). If I put pair 214 back into whatever socket (I've tried them all) the system crashes after a while. Can you tell me how to proceed from here? Thanks! memtest reports a bunch of errors before the system locks up: Tst Pass Failing Address Good Bad Err-Bits Count ------------------------------------------------------- 4 0 00002064030 32.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 00002064030 32.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4000 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4004 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4010 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4014 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4020 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4024 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4030 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 4 0 000021b4034 33.2MB a487266 5b78d899 ffffffff 1 System specs: Tyan S2885 (K8W) 2 x Opteron 246 2 x TWINX1024-3200LLPT ANTEC TruePower 550EPS12V NVIDIA GeForce FX 5900XT 2 x SATA WD740GD Windows Server 2003
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 1, 2005 You should be using CM72SD512RLP-3200 with this MB. Tyan does not give you the option to set the Dim Voltage with this MB and I would suggest 2.7-2.8 Volts with this configuration. But I have no problem replacing the modules for you if you want to try that. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it! maxa
Ok, thanks for the quick reply, I will go ahead and RMA the modules. As an aside, could you tell me what the right voltage for the modules is -- I couldn't find it in the data sheet. I checked the voltage monitor of the MB and it says it is running the modules at ~2.60V. I will consider getting the 'server type' memory you suggested when doing the next upgrade. Can you tell me what timing it uses? Thanks!
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted April 1, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 1, 2005 and I would suggest 2.7-2.8 Volts with this configuration. CM72SD512RLP-3200 would be built to JEDEC defined specification Cass 3-3-3-
