Burr
Hi Everyone, I recently built a new computer and shortly after I started using it there began to be a problem where it would spontaneously restart. After checking many different parts it seems to be the ram. I have 1 GB of CMX512-3200LLPT TWINX Corsair Ram. I used memtest on the Intel Motherboard and received errors in the thousands (the ram was v3.1). I have another older computer (with an Asus P4C-800 Motherboard) that has been using the same sort of ram (same but v1.2) perfectly for a while now. I switched out the ram and ran tests on the ram that had received errors (v3.1) in this other computer and got the same results. Many, Many errors spanning megabyte chunks on both modules. Just to be sure I tested the modules that had not given me any problems (v1.2) and they checked out fine with memtest. Any suggestions?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 29, 2005 Let's get them replaced, but with the ASUS MB you would need to disable legacy USB when running any memory test and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts as well. Thanks for the response. I have already disabled the USB and will change the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts even though I have had no problems with the memory I was using with the Asus MB. BTW does this mean that I should file an RMA now?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 29, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 29, 2005 Please test the modules with http://www.memtest.org and if you get no errors but you have the restart problem, I would check for some other cause. And you have to disable legacy USB not the USB controller.
Burr
Sorry, if my last post was missleading. I did what you recommended and am still having problems with the bad ram. I was just saying that the the other set of ram which I normally use in the ASUS MB has been working fine. But the ram which was giving me problems, is still giving me many errors in memtest which I have run again while it is in both MBs even after I changing things as you have recommended. The bad ram still needs to be replaced. I will file for an RMA. Thanks again.
