Defect part or not?

Hi!

I cant decide wether to send my vs512mb400 module back to the reseller or not...

Im having BSODs (especially bad_pooL_header) randomly a few times a day.

I checked the ram with memtest86+-1.55 and memtest86-3.2 and get louds of errors at test 5, when in slot 1. I get less errors in slot 2 and only a few in slot 3. Its the only newer computer so I cant really test with other ram :(

Does memtest errors porve its a harware fault (and not a driver) ?

I know you cant say that it IS ..., but would you assume one reason (if I'm really unlucky it might turn out being more then one reason to the BSODs :(() is bad ram ?

Parts:

msi k8n neo fsr, soc 754

amd athlon 64 2800+ @1808Mhz , 200fsb

vs512mb400 lot#0451024-0 default auto bios settings (2T, 2.5,3,3,8 ) 2,7V

sappire radeon 9600xt 128mb

antec slk26000bqe, 350W

hitachi deskst 7k250 80gb

(logitech ex100, netgear ma111v2)

OS: win xp pro sp2

Thanks

edza

Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts as well. If you do find one failing then lets get it or them replaced. Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

However; if you get errors with both modules, that would suggest some other problem, and I would try testing the memory in another system to be sure.

A 2800+ will run at 166 MHz not 200 MHz, are you over clocking your CPU? If so, I would try these settings and test the modules again.

CPU Freq: 166 MHz

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 166MHz

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 7T

Please use http://www.memtest.org to test the modules, but getting errors on test 5 would suggest some other problem.

I thought A64! 2800+ should run at atleast 200... am I wrong ?

Dont think I can get any lower... :)

Errors on test5 would suggest what ? Silll bad ram a possiblity ?

I figured out that most of the bad_pool_header BSODs appear when i shut something down, either a singel program or windows, maybe that would suggest something...

Sorry I missed that it was an AMD64 CPU. Yes it should run at 200 Mhz. And errors in test would normally suggest the errors are comming from the system, CPU, Chipset, or PSU maybe. I would suggest testing them in another system if you can, or I have no problem replacing them.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!
