Asus P5AD2-E + TwinX CM2x512-5400c4

Recommended Posts

Specs:

Mobo: Asus P5AD2-E

CPU: Intel P4 630 3.0GHz

Mem: Corsair TwinX CM2X512-5400c4

Has anyone tried to overclock this Memory & CPU to get 1066 FSB or close to it successfully? Running Ram at 4-4-4-12... tried 3-3-3-8 but becomes unstable. My system seems to hang when running the CPU at 266MHz. Anyone....anyone....

Thanks

What are your CPU's temps? If the system is looking up you may be running to hot. What voltage are you using for the CPU and VDIMM? If you are still running default voltages you will have a hard time hitting 4 ghz on the CPU.

I left the CPU Voltage and just changed ram to 1.9v.

I can't believe youre running at 4.4GHz. Thats awesome... I think I should reset the bios to default and start overclocking from scratch. What do you suggest trying? Did you change the FSB at all? My FSB on this MB is 1066 but the 3.0GHz chip is only 800. I have read that boosting the FSB up to 1066 is the only difference between P4 cpu and P4EE. Wonder if my 630 can handle it.

Set the RAM timings manually to 4,4,4,12. From my testing and what I see the 5400s don't like the reduced timings. FWIW, I have been running my 5400 PROs at 2.0Vdimm. They stay pretty cool and seem to like that voltage. I have had them as high as DDR746 stable in Memtest.

The 550 CPU I had constantly throttled back to lower speeds, sometimes less than 1/3 or what was set in bios. Even water cooling did not help. It throttled back at stock settings with stock cooling so in my mind that = defective. It's been RMAd. Now, I have a 650 but it won't allow me to use the 14x multi on this Fatal1ty MOBO for some strange reason. So now, I can't get the bus speed high enough to run the RAM that fast. And, even though it was Memtest stable, it would not boot Windows. However, I don't think that was a stability issue. The ABIT MOBOs have had trouble with their SATA lock and I'm using a Raptor. I may get an IDE HD to test this theory.

Ahhh...i understand. I have the 630 cpu. From what I have read, they are a large improvement over the 500 series. Are you able to overclock the CPU at all? Have you tried over clocking the FSB?

Yes, so far this 3.4/650 is stable at about 240mhz. But, even at a 3:4 that only puts the RAM at 320mhz which is FAR below what this stuff will run. However, I want to be able to use the 14 x multi and OC at a 1:1 and hopefully go over 300 on the FSB. But, I can't select the 14 x now :[pouts: I hope ABIT resolves this.

Bios upgrade? MB drivers all up to date? I am going to try an overclock mine as soon as my new hard drives come in. I will reload from scratch and try it then. Is the Ai Booster any good or is it better to overclock in the BIOS manually? Should I even load that Ai Booster in your opinion?

I've got the latest of everything from ABIT and Intel. DFI is in the same boat as you cannot manually select 14 nor can you disable the Speed Stepping. The ABIT bios says the the EIST is disabled but it is not. So, hopefully a bios revision will resolve this.

And, I would never use that AI Booster thingy. Do it manually.

I agree...need Bios Rev. Email them to get moving. They will get one out Im sure. Ai is ng huh...i believe it... i will try it in the Bios. Best to overclock one thing at a time or go in and do the cpu and fsb and ram all at once?
