DreadX
I bought one pair of VS512MB400 to my new computer, but it only shows up as 523MB. So, I tried all possible combinations, but the only one which is working is this one. The computer wont even start if I use anyother combination and I've tried only one stick at the time but it doesn't work. i read the manual and it said I should put them in either slot 1 and 3 or 2 or 4. The two which are "working", are slot 1 and 2 I use K8T Neo2 and Athlon 64 3500+. Any suggestions? At startup my motherboard complains that bios haven't been setup yet. Can that be the problem? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 23, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 23, 2005 Please make sure that you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and exit the bios and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. Wired
Try one stick at a time in each slot, see what they show up as.
DreadX
I bought a pair ocf VS512MB400 to my new system, but only 523mb is shown/used. So I tried one stick but then only 256mb were shown. I bought a better power unit (400W instead of 300W), but without any result. My friend helped me with the memtest that you recommended. He said all the values were half of what they should be. I have no idea what to do. Ramguy, please help me! My config: Athlon 64 3500+ winch. Wired
Which slots are you trying the memory in? http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=608 When running with only one stick it needs to be in DIMM 2, the green slot between 2 other slots. When running with 2 sticks it needs to be in DIMM 2 and DIMM 4. However, it also says: Always insert the memory modules into the GREEN slots first, and it is strongly recommended not to insert the memory modules into the PURPLE slots while the GREEN slots are left empty. May also want to try both sticks in both green slots, see how they show up.
DreadX
I've tried both 1-3 and 2-4, same result. I'm not sure what you mean with "Always insert the memory modules into the GREEN slots first". How can my system feel which module I've inserted first and where I inserted it if the computer is off? And If I use either 1-3 or 2-4 atleast one green and one prurple slot i used, so I dunno what you mean by "it is strongly recommended not to insert the memory modules into the PURPLE slots while the GREEN slots are left empty", either. Well, I'm a bit tired.. At the moment, I'm useing 2-4. I'll try 1-3 and both green slots as you said and the report back. brb :sunglasse
DreadX
heh, I've been wrong all the time ;D. sorry! Slot 1-3 and 2-4 doesn't work at all. The only combination that actualy works is 3-4 (the green slots), _but_ at half the speed. The screen wont start with 1-3 and 2-4. This is a bit messy, but I hope you understand ;D
Wired
The greens are 1-2, purples are 3-4. Sounds like a possibly bad memory controller on the CPU. Try the memory in another PC to be safe.
