fatduckie
Hi, I have a TWINX1024-4000PRO with 18LED. I just recently bought K8VSE Deluxe. However, I have no way to install Windows XP. It always cannot find some files in the installation. When I change another stick of memory, it works fine. My computer configuration. Athln 64 3400+ K8VSE Deluxe MSI 6800GT 256MB Antec TP 430W 160GB HD. My memory setting are 3-4-4-8. 2.7V dimm I left others as default. I tried to run memtest. It generates failure message within 10 minutes. I tried one stick at a time but the system only boots sometimes with one of TWINX1024-4000PRO. It does not have any problem with using other brand. May I know what's the problem, please? Thanks. :)
CandyKid
Welcome to the forums, fatduckie! It's pretty rare to get two bad modules in the same kit, so let's hit it from a setting standpoint... I think you should raise your DDR Voltage to about 2.85v and see if that helps. Also, make sure the Ai Overclocking options are off and everything is at stock speeds, just to make sure it's all peachy. Overclock later! Also, you're not trying to use the other stuff with the new memory, are you? That usually doesn't work very well! PLUR CK
fatduckie
Hi, Nope. I havn't overclocked anything yet. I set the memory runs at DDR 400, 3-4-4-8. I leave everything as default. I tested the memory at 2.8v (I don't see 2.85v in the setting.). It is still getting errors around 9-11 mins running memtest. The memory itself is very hot on the surface. I tried to put the memory in slot 1-3, 1-2, and 2-3. I tried to swap the memory order as well. Sometimes, the system won't even boot up after I swap the memory. The LED light shut off. I need to pull the memory out, swap it back, and turn it on again. What should I try to check? The BIOS is the latest version by the way. Of course, I only use those two sticks of memory now. ^^ Thanks a lot. :)
CandyKid
Have you looked at your BIOS to see what voltage is actually being reported? You might also want to reset your BIOS to see if some setting is "stuck". Also, how do the LED's light up when you boot? Are they fairly systematic (green, then orange, then red, then all on for a second, then almost all off...) or does it do something wierd like light up the red ones without anything else or the yellow ones, etc. Corsair may have unwittingly given us a great debugging tool with those LEDs and is how I located the error in an A7V880 of mine... fatduckie
Hi, The LED turned on from green to orange to red. Then it will be back to green awhile later. However, sometimes, there is no LED on for both sticks and the system won't boot at all. I don't see any Vdimm voltage report in the BIOS. Any idea where I can actually check it, please? Thanks a lot. :)
CandyKid
To view the voltages, look in your BIOS under the "POWER" menu for "Hardware Monitor". FYI, it's on page 4-32 of your manual. If the LED's aren't lighting up at all when it won't boot, then you might have an issue with either your PSU or the mainboard itself not supplying voltage. The LED's should light up when you turn on the system. You might also want to contact ASUS to see what they say about it. PLUR CK
fatduckie
Hi, So you're saying that my PSU doesn't have enough power, right? Is Antec TruePower 430W have enough power for the memory? I have a little bit wierd readig at 12V line, as it always shows 11.65V rather than 12V all time. No matter if it's in idle or full load. Does it affect the memory issue? Thanks. :)
CandyKid
No, actually I'm saying you have a problem with the path between the PSU and the memory and I think it could be the motherboard. Your PSU should be just fine for the job! Also, 11.65 on a 12v rail is perfectly normal and within tolerances. PLUR CK
fatduckie
Hi, Actually I don't have extra A64 motherboard on hand to test the memory. What should I do?? Do I have to RMA the memory? Thanks. :)
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 30, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 30, 2005 I would test the memory on another system, it would not have to be a AMD based system.
fatduckie
I could use it on ASUS P4P800 before. However, I only have AMD systems at this moment. Now I'm not sure if it's the memory problem or it's the capability problem. What should I do next? It's just so inconvinence that I only can use a 256MB generic memory now. Thanks a lot. :) NOTE: By the way, what kinda memory should I use with that motherboard?
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 31, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 31, 2005 Please try and test them in another system, maybe a friend can help you. I would use CMX1024-3200C2 for best performance with this MB.
