New gpu too much for psu?

Hi

I just bought a ROG Syrix 2070Super Advanced, and after a few minutes of usage, the PSU went dead. Its a Corsair MR750i.

For some reason, if i leave it untouched for about an hour, I can boot it again. (The psu comes back to life-though i don’t know how many times this will happen).

The thing is, at one point I managed to boot and i used corsair link to monitor power consumption, and the psu was pumping between 100 and 250w right before it died again.

So now I’m thinking it might not be the psu, but a defective card. Can that be?

I figured it out thanks to a post on reddit.

I was using only one pci-e cable (which had two 6+2) connectors. Apparently, this freaked the psu out.

I connected the gpu with two separate cables, making sure the part that the connector that has 8 wires goes into the gpu, leaving the one with only 6 wires not connected (the cable that goes from the psu to the gpu has 8 wires, but then, when it extends to the second 6+2 connector, it does with only 6 wires)

So far, so good.
