Bad memory module

Recommended Posts

I have the matched pair of 512mb, Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2 .

Yesterday, the computer crashed, and now when I´m booting my computer the POST says "System failed memory test".

One, or maybe both modules has gone bad. I have tried one/both in another brand new computer with a compatible motherboard, and this one crashes also.

What is my next move? Should I send in my modules?

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

Here is my info:

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe

AMD64 3500+

I have everything set to auto in the bios. I have never overclocked or any kind.

Please make sure that you have the latest bios, and then load setop defaults and set these settings manually and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org.

Dim Voltage to +2.7 Volts:

CAS Latency CL=2.5

Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default

Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default

Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 3

Row to Row delay Bios Default

Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 6

Row Precharge Time tRP 3

Write Recovery Time Bios Default

Write to Read delay Bios Default

Read to Write Delay Bios Default

Refresh Period tREF Bios Default

Enable 2T Timing Enabled

Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org and make sure it's stable!

I have the latest stable bios from Asus and I made the changes you said. But, my system wont start. I only get the "System failed memory test" POST-report. So I can´t run the memtest.

What should I do next?

At the moment I´m running memtest on one of my modules on another working computer.

Memtest glows red and shows a bunch of errors (over 1 000 000 right now), and the test sequence is far from finished. So, i guess something is wrong with this module :[pouts:

Should I send in only one, or both modules?

There is no "if". When an RMA is approved, you WILL get a new pair. Generally after they get it there's a 2 or 3 day processing time I think (may be shorter). Std 3 day shipping I think.

Did you put on the RMA form 1 TWINX1024-3200C2 or 2 CMS512-3200C2?
