sikespa
My computer crashes randomly, especially in heavy 3D gaming environment I swapped video cards - no change Ran Memtest 86 ver3.1 multiple failures at test #5 System is as follows ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe Award Bios ver 6.00PG TWINX1024-4000Pro Memory Timing manually set to 3-4-4-8 Memory Freq [100%] DDR ref voltage set at 2.7v CPU 3200+ CPU ext freq [200 MHz] CPU freq multiple setting [AUTO] CPU freq muliple 11.0x Memory Modules are CMX512-4000Pro XMS4000v3.1 Is there anything else needed to assist me diagnose this or do you suspect a problem with one of the memory sticks? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 22, 2005 I have had 4 MB's of this model and had issues with several models of memory. And for the record I have absolutly no problem replacing your modules, please follow the link in my signature and submit the RMA. But from what I have seen with this MB that may not solve the problem. Please go to http://www.asusforums.org under the AMD section and you will see a sticky about this MB. But you should set the FSB Jumper to pins 2-3 and then clear the bios and when you start the system go to bios and load setup defaults and set the following timings with the modules in slots 2-3. CPU Freq: 200 MHz System performance: User Defined Memory Frequency: 100% Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts Resulting Frequency: 200MHz SDRAM CAS Latency: 3T SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 8T Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org, if you get errors, please test the modules one at a time. There have been a few users report that setting Spread Spectrum to Disabled also solved the issue.

One of the thinks that popped out in that forum was that the ver 3.1's were an issue and that the ver 1.2's work fine. Have you seen this to be the case for many? In your suggestion of moving the jumper to 2 - 3, won't this result in a lower FSB?
Wired
That was v3.1 of the C2s, not the 4000s.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 22, 2005 You will need to set the CPU Frequency manually, please try it and if the modules you have are not a matched set then you will want to install them in slots 1-2 and set the timings to Cass 2.5-3-3-7. I did as you asked with the settings you posted first, not the ones for unmatched pairs, as well as some of the others from the House of Mobos website. It failed, then I moved the memory stick that was seated in 2 (A1) to 1 (A2) and have made it through Memtest86 with no errors. I am going to let Memtest86 run continuously for a few hours and let you know if I find any issues. My question now is what does this effect? Because, according to the A7N8X-E Deluxe Users Guide I can have the memory installed like this and still be in dual channel mode. And the BIOS confirms dual channel mode, but everywhere I have looked online, they state to use the blue DIMM sockets (A1 & B1 or 2 &3). What is your take on this? Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 22, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 22, 2005 Dual channel will work in slots 1-3 or 2-3 and slots 2-3 would be suggested counting with the 1st slots closest to the CPU. But hey if it works.

But hey if it works. Like I stated before it passed in the first run fine. I have had Memtest86 running for 7 hours and 16 passes now and this is how it panned out Test #5 failed twice on passes 3, 9, and 10 Test #6 failed once on pass 7 What do you think? Should Memtest86 be able to run this many test without a problem? Should I go ahead with the testing of the one module at a time and if so do you have a preference on which DIMM slot? Thanks again for all of your help.

In trying to submit my RMA via the online form it gives me an error stating 'no referer'? I put the Post ID # 180790 on the form. Any idea what I missed? Wired
Not really. It's not on the list of things that the form checks: Missing value for firstname Missing value for lastname Missing value for address Missing value for city Missing value for state Missing value for zip Missing value for phone Missing value for email Missing value for product_type Missing value for product_qty Missing value for description Missing value for ticket

I just wanted to thank you for your assistance and I hope that the new modules work out. I would hate to have to bug you again. It could very well be that the ASUS A7N8X-E Motherboards have a problem with Corsair XMS memory modules, but let's hope that this is not the case.
