aschneid
Hello, I'm considering purchasing an MSI NEO4 Platinum motherboard and was deciding on what RAM I want. I would like to get a single 1GB memory stick and am considering the VS1GB400C3. Can anybody tell me if this stick is single or double sided (single or dual channel)? Does Corsair sell any other single-sided (single channel) 1 GB DDR400 sticks? Thanks, Andrew
leeghoofd
Well don't mix up single/double sided and single/dual channel mate. Sided refers to the ram module itself meaning there are rams on one or on both sides of the dimm. Single channel means you only installed one dimm ( or not in the foreseen dual channel dimm slots) and you get less bandwith with the memory, when going dual channel you will see a performance boost of about 5% so if you need 1 gig of ram go 2x512mb and gain a few extra fps. I seriously would opt for a twinx pair and not a value select kit in such a flashy board. Go eg 3200Xl, its more expensive but faster all the way and some headroom for OC later on :)
Wired
For the most part, 512 MB sticks are dual sided, 256 MB sticks and smaller are single sided.
