drk_dragoon
Hello, I recently received my: Corsair TWINX1024-3200C2PT 1GB DDR400 XMS3200 Dual-Channel Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader Retail However, Im having problems. When its set at the standard 2-3-3-6 Memtest fails approximately 60% through and never passes the test. However, If i loosen them to 2.5-3-3-6 I have no problems. A few stats about my system: Intel 3.0 P4 Abit AG8 MOBO (Dual Channel capable) Default voltages I also tried increasing the voltage +.10 to stabilize it, but I still get errors and windows will not boot up. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do next? RamGuy - how would I go about returning these for a new set? Unfortunately I need my computer and this is the only ram I have right now... Thanks for any and all help! I would rather get my problem fixed without having to hassle with returns, but I also would not like to "live" with memory that doesnt run at its rated speed. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 18, 2005 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.75 Volts and then test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing.
drk_dragoon
Ram Guy, Followed your advice by testing one at a time. Errors still piled up in the newest version of MemTest using 2-3-3-6 on both modules. I tried one, then tried the other. Same result. I increased the voltage from 2.6 to 2.8 (My Abit board doesnt have 2.75) and ran memtest again. This time, I only received 4 errors after 1 test. I increased the voltage again to 2.9, and encountered the same amount of errors. So... my first question is what is an approximate maximum safe voltage to run these to optimize performance and lifespan? The second question is... why am I still getting errors even though your memory is rated for 2-3-3-6?? Anything else I could try? I was afraid to up the voltage anymore because I wasnt sure how far I should go. I wouldnt think 3+ volts would be nessisary for these modules to work as advertised. Thanks again. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 18, 2005 Getting errors with both modules would suggest some other problem, what test are you getting errors on and did you happen to disable legacy USB when you ran memtest? And can you tell me the system configuration along with the make and model of PSU you have? I would also maybe try testing the modules in another system if you can as that would isolate them from your system.
drk_dragoon
Ram Guy, Tested the modules in my roommates computer after begging him to help me out... Quite a pain. The modules still give errors in memtest. Im using the latest version and the errors pile up around 65% in the random read write section. He is using a plain emachine that he just bought and IM using a custom built pc, that I might add had NO problems at all with a stick of generic memory that I used from my IT friend. I have a chiefmax 450 watt power supply, have had no problems in the past with it, no problems with cheapo memory. Anything else you want me to do to get these things working like they are supposed to? Runs fine with 2.5-3-3-6, but I dont understand how your memory is supposed to be tested but yet I hear many people having the same problem as me. Check the reviews on newegg. And one more thing, If I get this working at a higher voltage, such as 2.9v, would corsair cover them under warranty if they fail a year down the road? If so, I would be fine with increasing the voltage to get them stable... If not, then I would really like a working pair. Thanks again. Wired
They are warrantied up to, but not over, 2.9 volts.
drk_dragoon
Ok, new updates Ram Guy. My power supply went bad the other day so I bought a brand new 480w thermaltake PSU and tested it out. Rock stable power, but the memory STILL fails memtest on the specified rating of 2-3-3-6. Even after all suggestions, my memory still does not run at the specified rating. I would like to process an RMA for a defective product... These do not run at 2-3-3-6 from the package! Never have, and still wont at 2.9v. Thanks. Oh, here are some quick specs: Custom Built PC with AG8 Motherboard 3.0 P4 Prescott 160GB SATA Thermaltake 480W(P4)W0014

drk_dragoon
Ok, I did some more tests with the memory sticks. THe first time I tested these, I got either stick when tested one at a time. Now, I tried each separate stick, in slot 1 on my computer, and I get NO errors in Memtest. EVEN on 2.6v! None of the sticks error! However, as soon as I put them back in slots 1 and 3 (Dual DDR on my MOBO) I get errors like crazy- even at 2.9 volts I would really like to avoid sending these back, I was just wondering what I could do to run these things in Dual DDR without having problems... Sorry for the continuous posts, but I would really like to figure out what I could do or set in the bios that will fix this. Thanks ramguy! Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 31, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 31, 2005 If both modules are passing one up that would suggest some other problem, and I would try testing them in another system if you can.
