Pterzo
Yes i bought the matching pair or corsair memory <VS1GBKIT400> I put both in.. i have 3 dimms i put one in the first slot and the other matching ram in and tried both the 2nd and third slots..with 1 stick in the first and one in the 3rd slot my puter wont boot it does three loud consecutive peeps ....when i pull the stick out of the third or 2nd slot and leave just the one in the first slot everything is fine. Gigabyte GA-8VT800L P4 2.66 it runs fine with any of the sticks in the first slot only* dimm is 400 ddr--any help would be greatly appreciatted ty

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 17, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 17, 2005 Please test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org and lets be sure one is not failing. And I would set the Dim Over Voltage Control to +.2 Volts as well.

Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 18, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 18, 2005 So they all tested good one up? If so how many modules and what are the part# of all of them? and can you tell me the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

leeghoofd
I really would try a bios update first, probably all is due to bad settings etc or a bad mobo or bad installation when inserting the dimms and it could well be that the dimm slot is defective. Did you try a bios update for that mobo here's the link to the latest http://tw.giga-byte.com/Download/Download.asp?FileExtName=exe&DownloadPath=/MotherBoard/FileList/BIOS/bios_8vt800_f6g "Please remember to "Load Optimize Defaults" (in the BIOS Setup) after updating new BIOS" I'm a bit puzzled first you tell us the puter only shows 512Mb and then it doesn't boot with either of the dimms seems like something is wrong there. mm mobo is quite weak regarding set tools. Indeed nothing to do then ad the extra 0.2 to the dimm voltage no Cas settings etc.... possible. Only thing to do here is to try a bio update to see if that resolves it maybe. I really don't think it's Corsair fault blame Gigabyte for delivering such a weak bios with no settings to fiddle around with. Plus I hate SIS chipsets for Intel platforms, stick with Via,Nvidia and Intel. An Intel belongs on an Intel chipset.
Pterzo
bio is updated........ i have my old stick of ram back in the machine and it works fine let me state again the computer doesn't boot up with either stick of Corsair. so your telling me that the only way to install more mem is to have a better mobo?.not buying that sorry. this is my 4th computer and i havent had any probs installing just memory until now. leeghoofd
well it seems the mobo doesn't detect the ram properly so what can you do , get a newer board or buy other ram, simple ain't it. Don't you have a friend who can test the ram in his rig maybe it's just defective run memtest on it and see what gives, it's a small shot that both dimms are defective but it can happen It's realy a shame that some hardware just doesn't get along. You have bad luck here mate :(:
Wired
You are contradicting yourself. 1. What is the FSB of the CPU? 2. What is the speed of your other memory?
Pterzo
You are contradicting yourself. 1. What is the FSB of the CPU? 2. What is the speed of your other memory? Thank you for all the help........but bottom line here is im not a puter geek...got it?.....and another thing i work hard for my money i'm no kidd 50yrs young but i still game alott. If I can't buy 100.00$ + worth of ram and put it in my rigg and turn it on and fire it up then that really upsets me. Now the FSB of the cpu? hmm did the memory come with Instructions? umm no! The Mobo is rated fsb800 now where do I find this fsb for the cpu? now on a side note I just d/l some software that gives more info here it is CPU(s) Number of CPUs 1 Name Intel Pentium 4 Code Name Northwood Specification Intel® Pentium® 4 CPU 2.66GHz Family / Model / Stepping F 2 9 Extended Family / Model 0 0 Brand ID 9 Package mPGA-478 Core Stepping D1 Technology 0.13 µ Supported Instructions Sets MMX, SSE, SSE2 CPU Clock Speed 2672.4 MHz Clock multiplier x 20.0 Front Side Bus Frequency 133.6 MHz Bus Speed 534.5 MHz L1 Data Cache 8 KBytes, 4-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L1 Trace Cache 12 Kµops, 8-way set associative L2 Cache 512 KBytes, 8-way set associative, 64 Bytes line size L2 Speed 2672.4 MHz (Full) L2 Location On Chip L2 Data Prefetch Logic yes L2 Bus Width 256 bits Mainboard and chipset Motherboard manufacturer Motherboard model VT8754-8235, BIOS vendor Award Software International, Inc. leeghoofd
Your cpu is a 2660Mhz P4, Front side bus is 133 , multiplier is 20. 1)Reset the bios (unplug the power cable) via the foreseen jumper. then put in the new ram ( 1 dimm ) try to boot. 2) Set it up again with the old ram and change the values below. The problem is you won't be able to get the ram working on your rig you cannot change some necessary values via the bios, it detects the newer ram incorrectly and sets it up wrongly ( many older biosses do that sadly ). Only thing you can do is to ad 0.2 volt ( Dimm overvoltage control) to the DDR voltage but that's the only thing you can set besides clock spread spectrum to disabled then put in the newer ram and try to boot. If that fails I think it's back to the vendor of the ram and try to swap it. Newer hardware gives many more probs believe me :[pouts:
