Bad Stick ? xms3200XL

For the last week I have been having random errors. Referenced memory at "0x00000008" the memory could not be read and/or Referenced memory at 0x070a5c17 the memory could not be written.

It has been getting worse as I do alot of online racing and I haven't finished a race at all since last Wed as I would always get an error. It even started to do it while I was surfing the net and using other programs. I thought for sure It was my video card, I replaced that and it still happens. So today I started reading this board and did the memtest86. I had 2700 errors in my first pass in test #5. So I pulled out 1 stick and ran the test all was fine. I did the same with the other stick and received 1780 errors in test 5. I put the good stick back in 5 hr's ago and no problems at all since. I did benchmark tests/racing and anything to put on a heavy load.

System:

AMD 64 3500+ 939

XMS-Twin1024-3200XL

Abit AV8 Mobo

Evga Nvidia 6800 Ultra

450 PSU

Win XP SP2

Normal Clock. I can't afford to overclock it.

Not sure what else you need. Sorry for writing so much, but the more info I share the easier this should be.

Thanks Keith

Did some more testing today, both sticks in dimms 3/4 errors on test 5. single stick in dimm 1 error on 1 stick, single stick dimm 3 error on 1 stick (the same stick) all errors on test 5. Came back to the forum to read some more and see I missed alot of the voltage sug. by you. (2.80) I changed my DDR to 2.80 and now I have 0 errors. I have been running tests for the last 6 hrs single and both sticks with 0 errors. So I do feel my problems are fixed or at least know now it is not the RAM.

Could you please look over my settings and see if there is something that I should change or are my settings ok ?

I plan to add 2 more sticks of ram in the near future.

Thanks to you and the others on this board. I have to race tonite (leagues) and hopefully I'll be able to finish. I also ran my benchmark again and scored 214 pts better than I ever have.

You might try these settings and see if that does not improve your scores.

Dim Voltage to +2.8 Volts:

CAS Latency CL=2.0

Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default

Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default

Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 3

Row to Row delay Bios Default

Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 11

Row Precharge Time tRP 2

Write Recovery Time Bios Default

Write to Read delay Bios Default

Read to Write Delay Bios Default

Refresh Period tREF Bios Default

Enable 2T Timing Disabled

Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org and make sure it's stable! If you have problems, I would set Enable 2T Timings to AUTO and test it again!
