STOPchris
I have an AX860i that I am using in a mini-itx build and want to know what sleeved wire kit will work with this PSU?
Corsair Employees Corsair Notepad Posted April 29, 2019 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 29, 2019 That power supply uses Type 3 cables so any of the Type 3 kits will work.
STOPchris
Do you guys even sell type 3 cables anymore? I looked on Amazon, Newegg, and even Corsair website and cannot find any. I have some PCIe cables left from a type 4 kit, can I use these cables only on my AX860i?
Corsair Employees Corsair Notepad Posted April 30, 2019 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 30, 2019 A Type 4 PCIe cable will work for your PSU. Below you will find links to the Type 3 cables. https://www.corsair.com/uk/en/Categories/Products/Accessories-%7C-Parts/c/Cor_Products_Accessories_Parts?q=%3Afeatured%3AproductCategories%3ACor_Products_Accessories_Parts_PCComponents_PowerSupplies%3AaccessoryName%3AType+3+Gen.+2+Individually+Sleeved+Cables&text=&pageSize=12#rotatingText
STOPchris
Just to be certain, I do not want to destroy my components, I CAN use a type 4 PCIe cable safely with the AX860i? If so, then what type 4 cables cannot be used with this PSU?
Corsair Employees Corsair Notepad Posted April 30, 2019 Corsair Employees Share Posted April 30, 2019 Please refer to the below link regarding the cable compatibility with your PSU. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/psu-cable-compatibility
STOPchris
Please refer to the below link regarding the cable compatibility with your PSU. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/psu-cable-compatibility The problem with that list, that I have, is that I bought a 1600i for my other build and I was able to use an all type 4 set for it... It makes me doubt that chart.

STOPchris
The chart has orange for some wires and red for others.
STOPchris
The chart for the AX860i is saying you can use all type 3 or type 4 for pcie, and CPU, but type 3 for sata and 24 pin? The 1600i says all type 3 or 4, but only type 3 for the sata? That's were it is strange to me, because I use type 4 sata cables on my 1600i. Corsair Employees Corsair Notepad Posted May 1, 2019 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 1, 2019 That is because the AX1600i PSU uses Type 4 cables. The main difference between Type 4 and Type 3 cables is the fact that the 24pin has a completely different pinout from the PSU. That PSU cable compatibility graph shows exactly what cable you can use with what power supply. Type 3 and Type 4 PATA/SATA are the same cable. So, the only thing that differs between both of these PSU's cable compatibility is the 24 pin cable?
Corsair Employees Corsair Notepad Posted May 2, 2019 Corsair Employees Share Posted May 2, 2019 So, the only thing that differs between both of these PSU's cable compatibility is the 24 pin cable? That and the higher end models using Type 4 have inline capacitors on the cables to help with ripple.
