Bad CMX512-3200C2 Module

Recommended Posts

Dear RAM Guy,

I have an xms3200 512mb module that has never worked. I thought it was my motherboard or cpu at first, but after it failed in another system I figured it was the module. I have another two similiar modules and they work fine.

Here's my system specs:

Mobo: P4C800-E Deluxe

BIOS: 1019 (newest)

CPU FSB: 800 MHz

RAM FSB: 400

Memory Specs:

CMX512-3200C2 XMS3202v1.2

0337117-1

XMS3200 512MB 400MHz CL2

Here's what I've done so far...

Updated bios.

Set Dimm voltage to 2.75 and disabled legacy USB.

Ran memtest and got following error:

failing address - 0001f324738 - 499.2 MB

Good - ffffffff

Bad - ffffefff

Err Bits - 000010000

Count Chan - 1

There were many of these, all of which were above the 417 Mb mark.

The symptoms my system has when the ram is in use are blue screens and restarts.

Thanks,

Chad

Sorry RAM guy,

I returned those modules while I still could. All I know is what I have told you. The thing that got me the worst was that it was that exact module that was listed on Asus's compatibility list as modules that worked with this motherboard. If I'd have known better I woulda consulted you first, but I am sticking with corsair.

Either module set should run great in that MB and in fact we use the same model of MB on our production line to test the modules. So I would have to assume you just had a bad module. Or some other issue. You are not trying to mix these modules are you?

Should not be a problem, please let me know if you have any questions!

Hello Ram Guy,

I received my new RAM module in today and it is doing the same thing as the previous. Black Windows XP flash screen comes up with the blue loading bar at the bottom, but after that the computer reboots. Its a 512mb chip with same specs as before. After it restarts bios shows it as a 215mb chip and gives a RAM R/W error. At this point I would question the motherboard, but I put my working Corsair module with the same specs back in and it runs fine. This one's got me stumped.

Let me know what you want me to do.

Chad

I would try and reset the bios but make sure that you have the latest bios version installed with just the new modules installed and then load setup defaults and set the memory Voltage to 2.75 Volts and test with http://www.memtest.org but please disable legacy USB when running any memory test with this MB.

Hey Ram Guy,

Found an updated bios for the P4C800-E Deluxe. I installed it, and set usb legacy to disabled, and ddr voltage to 2.75. Memtest still resulted in errors on this stick.

Here are the details on the new faulty module:

CMX512-3200C2

XMS3202v1.1

0304103-1

Here are the specs on my working module:

CMX512-3200C2

XMS3202v1.2

0338041

Memtest reports each stick as CAS 2.5-3-3-8. I only run the test with one module in at a time. Eventually, I would like to get them to run together. You think Corsair would let me trade in my good one, and the now second faulty module for a twinx? That would be cool. Anyways, "I think I have bad module."

It's now 2:40 AM. Have to get back to homework .

Thanks again,

Chad
