optics
Please could you advise me on the trouble I am having with my system. I have a Athlon 64 3500, Asus A8V Deluxe with Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPT. I purchased the components in September 2004 from OCUK , building the machine myself and have been running stable until the beginning of this week. The system freezes or I get a blue screen (not text on the blue screen though) during games most of the time and in normal use (although less often). I ran Memtest on the system and found that is was producing errors. I photographed the results here I run the system with the settings of auto in the BIOS (no over clocking on the system) memtest showed that the cas was 2-3-2-5 and was expecting 2-2-2-5 and shown on the packaging for the ram. I learnt the BIOS settings from your site and re ran the test but from this photo you will see it did not make any difference. I tried reseating the RAM in the different slots of the motherboard and the results were similar. I then tried each of the 512 dimms on there own with the board to rule out any dual access issues (I labelled one with an orange sticker and the other with yellow to tell them apart). Here are the results for the Orange ram: Auto 2-2-2-5 Results for Yellow ram: auto 2-2-2-5 I am only a home user so do did not have a spare machine of a similar spec to test the in. I borrowed the use of the P4 system (Abit Mboard) that does not support dual access and tried the dimms in it, the result showed errors. orange Yellow OCUK state in there support that after 28 days returned items must be sent to the manufacturer so I do not think they will be any help. Please let me know any advice you have regarding this matter or any help you can be in regards to replacing the RAM. Regards Jeff
Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted March 10, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted March 10, 2005 Jeff, Can you tell me the bios settings you had set? And I would try and set the Dim Voltage to 2.8 Volts and then test the modules one at a time and please try the latest beta bios for this MB Ver 1.005 Beta 3 or newer. optics
Thank you for replying... I downloaded and flashed the Bios from ASUS as requested and changed the voltage for the RAM from auto to 2.8V. Here are photos of BIOS settings I think are relevant and were used for the tests: DDR Voltage Auto Settings - These settings were used for months while the PC was stable 2-2-2-5 Settings - These settings were used for tests marked 2-2-2-5 I have not been running the system with these. Results: Orange Dimm auto 2-2-2-5 Yellow Dimm auto As you can see I still get errors in memtest and have not been able to check the stablility of the system under windows. Each test a single pass was completed, I ran out of time to do 2-2-2-5 on the yellow dimm as I have to somewhere else. Please let me know what you think. optics
As requested I completed an RMA and returned my RAM. Two days ago I got the replacements (Corsair TWINX1024-3200XLPT) and I have been having inconsistancy in stability of my system with the new ram. I first installed the Ram with the BIOS set to auto (see auto settings link above) @ 2.8 V and did a single pass with the memtest. This showed no errors. I changed to BIOS settings to run the ram at 2-2-2-5 (see 2-2-2-5 settings link above) @ 2.8 v and ram memtest did a single pass and no errors were reported. I booted into windows leaving settings of 2-2-2-5 @ 2.8V and the computer quickly locked up. I reset the machine booting into memtest and errors were found during the first pass. I set the bios back to 2-3-2-5 (auto) with auto as the voltage this was the setup with the old ram that was stable for months. Booted into windows which blue screened pretty quickly. I decided not to do a memtest on this setting as it was clearly unstable. I returned to the bios and changed the voltage back to 2.8V and started memtest back up. Two passes were then completed without error (2-3-2-5 auto @ 2.8v). The next day I continued my testing: Leaving the bios at 2-3-2-5 (auto) @ 2.8V I ran memtest and completed two passes without any error. I ran windows and found the computer to stable and was able to do 1 -1.5 hours of use (gaming and general internet stuff). After this I returned to memtest and it completed two passes without error and reported two errors on the third pass. Quick use of the system under windows showed that it was stable. I ran out of time on my testing for that day. Do you have any advice and suggestions/opinions on these results? I have not had much time with the new RAM but am concerned by the inconsistancy of the system any help that you think might diagnose any issue. Hopefully system will remain stable at 2-3-2-5 @ 2.8V despite the odd memtest error. My RMA# was R73836 if that is any help.

Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted April 1, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 1, 2005 What you have posted might suggest some other problem, can you test the modules in another system?
optics
Sadly I do not have access to another system to test the RAM. I will try and investigate further to into the health of my system (although not sure how) at this point. Should I find anything that points to the RAM I will post again for further advice. Hopefully I get some fun out this system for while. Thank you for the help and the replacement memory, rare to find such good support these days! Corsair Employee RAM GUY Posted April 6, 2005 Corsair Employee Share Posted April 6, 2005 optics What slots do you have the modules in?
optics
Dear Ram Guy I did not use the computer over the weekend so was unable to continue with any stablility tests. Last night I followed Wired's advice of setting the tRCD to 3 in the Bios leaving the others as auto and voltage as 2.8. Memtest showed that it was running with the cas of 2-3-2-5, similar to the settings are in auto. The system completed 5 passes of memtest without an error (a record for these dimms) and appeared to be stable in windows after a short test. I using the machine proper tonight for games and the like so it will test the stability better under windows. I hope this success will continue. To answer your question I am using Dimm_A1 and Dimm_B1 slots to seat my memory. Regards Jeff
