random stop errors 0x00000007f (0x00000000, 0x00etc.)

i keep getting random stop errors. i took my computer to the store where it was built so the bios could be reconfigured. they told me that they ran siSANDRA2004 and everything passed. i took it home and installed my new viewsonic screen (windows said something about not supporting that type of screen) but i proceeded with the install and it was succesful.

then i installed my router and it didnt work. sbc made me change my setting and other crap and still didnt work. so i called back to set settinmgs to original and while i was in the process of putting the numbers for my network card my computer gave me the stop error. i pressed the reset button and i was able to finish with my moded reconfiguration.

what could be causing my stop errors?

  • 3 weeks later...

well i ran the memtest for about 4.5 hours and no errors. then i ran prime 95 for a combined total of about 3 hours and my system was fine. i dont know what to do! do u think i might have to upgrade my bios theres 19 version out and i have a 16 version. i was also wondering if the problem might lie in the fact that i used a dell microsoft cd to install windows. hit me asa p please i hope these random stop errors are an easy fix. oh one last thingdo u think i should move my mem from slot 1 and 3 to slot 2 and four.

thanks and i hope u can help.

I had some probs on the same mobo with the 1016 bios, I needed to give the dimms the appropriate power ( 2.7 volts) and needed to set the timings to 2.5-3-3-6 Did you patch the rig with SP2 ? and also what vidcard and other components are you using. As you seem to indicate nothing is really wrong with the hardware (ram, mobo combo I mean ) , it could be a driver issue when windows boots. Do you use th eintel application accelerator drivers ? Did you test the rig without setting up your router,... does it run 100% stable then ? It might take a while to figure it out but you will find it at a certain moment. GL mate

i appreciate the feedback.

well i have an nvidia fx5700series video card

i think my timins might be off but ill double check with corsair, cause i took my rig to get a check up and they said they had set the timings but u never know mistakes can be made.

yeah i have windows service pack 2 so u think it might be settings?

u dont think it has to do with the fact that i used the windows cd that came with my dell?

i finnally got the router to work fine and even without the riouter i still got stop errors. so keep the feedback coming?

i appreciate it relieves me a bit, i still prey its not hardware and hope its only a driver.

well thanks again

what do u mean about a driver issue when windows boots up?

my rig works fine and all of a sudden i get a stop error. sometimes it goes for a day or two or three without getting a stop error and then all of a sudden a hardware stop error

whats the deal?

Do you Oc anything on your rig ? How are the temps of the CPU, vidcard , ... ? leave the side door off to see if it's a heat issue.

Check the bios settings for the ram ( try 2.5-3-3-6 with 2.7 volts you need to disable the auto overclock to gain access to all the settings), is fastwritess off for the vidcard ?

What is your PSU like ? Give us a full rundown of every hardware component in your rig.

How do you install XP ? I always install XP, then I make a ghost image of the clean install ( saves me precious time when it goess wrong). I install the latest Intel chipset drivers from Intel website, then I install DirectX9C and finally the Nvidia vidcard drivers ( official Whql I don't like beta's) After that I continue to install other hardware (soundcard,...) But I would suggest a clean isntall without messing about with the router etc ... I would leave only the barre necessary components in the rig , leave out extra gimmicks like radio tunercards,... just the mobo, dvd drive, vidcard and HD. Disconnect other components. The problem here is it could be hardware slowly dying on you or a software corruption that occurs. These faults are the hardest to find and they will take long time and a step by step inspection if it goes wrong with eg installation of a driver or adding some other hardware.

Install XP like mentioned above and test the pc with eg sisoft sandra or everest home ( benches ram, cpu,...) then install other software, bench again,.... till you find the culprit,...

Good luck mate

Is this a clean install of Windows or did you migrate the HD over from a previous system? Also, what power supply are you using?

my temps are good i have between 35-37 idle and my comp breaks 47 when i run prime 95.

i again hope its not hardware cause i bought less than 2 months ago.

well do u think i should use a cd that is not a dell cd to install windows?

leeghoofd if i could contact you cause i really need help, ur advice is good but i cant put to use. so if i can get ur number and contact u for ur assistance. thanks.

also i was thinking of switching from windows to Mac Os what do u tink?

and spec mike this is a clean install the harddrive is less than 2 months old, so its basically new. all my parts where purchased the same day.

i have reformatted my harddrive about 6 times nw because of the stop error.

Dell WinXP CD will ONLY install onto certain Dell PCs due to something they look for in the Dell BIOS. You cannot fake this.

Also, MAC OS will NOT work on an x86 architecture PC. There are ways to emulate it a bit, but it sure as hell ain't speedy.

You can contact me via Msn mate it's grampsjr10@hotmail.com but I live in Europe so I'm around at let's say 1900 till 2300 CET, I have installed WinMe from a Dell pc onto mine a few years ago but it could well be that if you try eg a friends copy that it works flawlessly. Also indeed emulating MacOs on a PC ain't good , like Wired said.

Regarding the PC componnets well it's pretty good that they are only a few months old so you won't have any probs with warranty.
