hota1018
Hi, I have been a fan of Corsair memory for some time and I purchased the CMX512-3200C2 Memory about a year ago. As I couldn't afford more than just a stick, I was only able to get one. Since then I have upgraded to another stick of the same memory. The older stick of ram were revision 2.2, while the new stick of ram I received were revision 4.1. At first I ignored it and thought of it as no big deal since they are the same memory. I began to have some stability issues and problem running benchmarks and prime95. I began to investigate the issue by changing ram timing, etc. I even tried switching ram slots and also running with 1 stick of ram. I've basically narrowed it down to the 2 rams not wanting to work together. Individually both ram will work fine and pass memtest, prime95 all with no errors. But, once I have both rams in there it starts to fail tests. Is there a way I can get the same revision ram so that they can work together better? Or am I stuck with a system that just won't run 100% stable? I've paid a lot of money for these 2 sticks of ram and it would be greatly appreciated if something can be done about this issue. Thank you in advance.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2005 Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?
hota1018
Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set? Sorry about the double post, I was not sure which section of the forums it belonged to and I did not see this section until after I've already post the other post. My computer is an Athlon 64 3200 Winchester with MSI Neo2 Platinum MB. All performance settings are currently stock. My timings ae set at 2.5-3-3-6. When I use a single stick I change it to 2-3-3-6, but I relax the timing to 2.5 when I am using 2 sticks of ram. Also strangely enough, if I put in the 4.1 Revision stick of ram in the 1st slot and 2.2 Revision stick of ram in the 2nd slot, the computer will run more stable, and it will run less stable when it is the other way around. Either way, I am forced to use 1 stick of ram for stability.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2005 I am sorry, but this platform would need to have modules that are exactly matched or it may not be stable. Did you just get these modules or have you had them for a while? And this is one of the reasons we make Twinx sets of modules.

Did you just get these modules or have you had them for a while? And this is one of the reasons we make Twinx sets of modules. I have had the older ram for about a year and recently decided to upgrade my computer with another set of ram. I orginally paid about $150 for the first set of ram and the second set of ram cost me another $120 or so. I was just hoping there could be something done because it made no sense for me to throw out a stick of ram that cost me 150 dollars originally just so I can get the Twinx sets. Don't get me wrong I believe those mems are very good and I would have bought them instead if it wasn't for the 150 dollars already spent on the other stick of ram. From my understanding, ram should be upgradeable and by purchasing the same exact product from the same exact manufacturer I thought I was getting something that will run well together. I was just hoping there could be something done rather than having to now spend another 200+ dollars for a Twinx set. As I've mentioned I have already spent upwards of 270 dollars acquiring my current ram.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2005 Yes, but you would need to match the part# and revision when doing something like that. And that can be hard to do. It is often time's easyer to just find another use for the old memory and get matching modules. And MB's today are not as forgiving with memory as they were in the past. I would see if the reseller will let you send the new module back and try and match the module you had.

Unfortunately I have already talked to the reseller and the product has already passed the 30 day period, so I cannot return it from what they are telling me. I was told to contact the original manufacturer for my problems. I would really hate to have to spend another 250 dollars for a matched set =(. I am not asking to be given a matched set, as I did not pay for it. But I did pay a premium price for a premium ram, and in order to insure highest compatibility I purchased another premium brand of same model and same brand. It would be greatly appreciated if I can send one of my ram back and receive at least same revision ram so that I can at least be running the same revision rams to see if it'll solve this issue I am having. I know this may be a lot to ask, but please consider the idea. Thank you. PS Also it does seem strange that when I put 4.1 revision ram in slot 1 and 2.2 revision ram in slot 2 the computer runs slightly more stable and vice versa. Prime95 won't even run for more than a minute with 2.2 revision ram in the first slot.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 9, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 9, 2005 I am sorry but if both modules will run and pass http://www.memtest.org then it's not a module issue. But I have no problem if you want to ask our customer service if they would let you send both modules in and get them replaced. But you will need to request they send back matching modules. Please send us a email with a copy of the form or all of your info name address and phone# and the Module part# and copy the link to this post and email it to Rma@corsairmemory.com. If after 1 day or 24 hours excluding weekends you do not get the rma please email the same to warranty@corsairmemory.com and we will help to resolve it. hota1018
Please let us know how you make out! Hi Ramguy, I just got an email from your RMA department and I am very confused. Within the message the following information was contained. Part Number: CM72SD1024RLP-2100/M Number of modules: 1 Would that be the memory that would be sent back to me if I RMAed my modules? If so doesn't this defeat the purpose of me having spent money on my motherboard and CPU combo that takes advantage of DUAL channel? I am very confused and wanted to know if you can shed some light on the situation. Thank you.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 11, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 11, 2005 Please reply to them and ask why they are trying to give you a registered ECC module. I think it's just a mistake. Or you can call them at 888-222-4346 and choose option "2".
