RPiazza72
I ran memtest on a set of modules I just recieved as replacements for a previous bad set there are xms3200XLPRO 1 GB2-2-2-5. The previous pair I tested on memtest came back with 44,000 errors. I tested the current pair in memtest and they came back with five errors in eight passes. All the errors are in test seven I have run memtest a few different times and I always get errors in test seven. Another difference with this pair is my motherbaord did not recognize the latency. The last pair read 2-2-2-5. This pair read 2-3-3-8. In any case I adjusted the bios to read the correct latency. I ran memtest with the correct latency and still get errors in test seven. I also have a pair of XMS TWINX 512 MB 2-3-3-6 memory and when I run that in memtest I get no errors at all. What do errors in test 7 mean and do I have another pair of bad memory? My computer has been relatively stable but I have gotten some crashes and the error report states a hardware problem. My specs are as follows AMD Athlon FX-55 MSI Neo 2 K8N Platinum Motherboard Awards 1.4 BIOS Seagate 200GB SATA Barracuda Drive Seagate 120GB SATA Barracuda Drive Seagate 80GB SATA Barracuda Drive eVGA Nivida 6800 Ultra 256MB
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 7, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 7, 2005 Please try these settings and then test the system with http://www.memtest.org. Dim Voltage to +2.8 Volts: CAS Latency CL=2.0 Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 3 Row to Row delay Bios Default Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 5 Row Precharge Time tRP 2 Write Recovery Time Bios Default Write to Read delay Bios Default Read to Write Delay Bios Default Refresh Period tREF Bios Default Enable 2T Timing Disabled Then test the system with http://www.memtest.org and make sure it's stable! If you have problems, I would set Enable 2T Timings to AUTO and test it again!
RPiazza72
Well I tried both methods. But they still gave me errors in test 7 it took longer to get the errors and there were less errors but there were errors. Without 2T timing it took two hours to see my first error when I ran memtest again with 2T enabled I had two errors a little after one hour of testing. Any suggestions
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 8, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 8, 2005 What test were you getting errors in? And can you test the modules in another system to be sure its not a problem with your system?
RPiazza72
I get the errors in test seven some times its early in test sometimes its late in test seven it doesn't seem to be the same exact test within seven all the time. I may be able to plug the modules into another computer this weekend so I'll see. But I have used another pair of memory modules 512 TwinX XMS without any problems in the system.
