mwindham
The Toshiba Tecra A4 specification manual states it uses 1024MB PC2700 DDR2 400MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules, which I hope is the VS1GSDS533D2, and I would hope you would confirm. I thought I may have seen this as 1.8V memory someplace, but perhaps I am mistaken. Also, the spec states as an accessory that it uses a KTT3311/1G which I do not see as ddr2. Would you be able to recommend the best choice for this laptop? Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2005 No you would need to use DDR1 with this system. So the correct part# would be VS1GSDS333 for that system. And you should replace the module that comes with the system.
mwindham
Is the "PC2700 DDR2 400MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules" an error in specification by Toshiba ( does it really mean VS1GSDS333 since PC2700 is not PC2-3200 and the ddr2 is misleading), or, if the thing was really designed for ddr2 and the parts were not available at the the time of marketing manual writing.... Thanks for your help. No you would need to use DDR1 with this system. So the correct part# would be VS1GSDS333 for that system. And you should replace the module that comes with the system. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2005 This makes no sence to me, I would ask whom ever is displaying this! PC-2700 would be DDR1 DDR333 memory. "PC2700 DDR2 400MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM"
mwindham
The "Memory3 • 256MB (Minimum)/2048MB (Maximum), 2 memory slots using 256MB, 512MB, or 1024MB PC2700 DDR2 400MHz SDRAM 2.5V SODIMM memory modules" is from the Toshiba Tech support web specifications manual for the Tecra A4. Why did you earlier say throw the 256M away? Does it impact the performance of the 1G? Thanks.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2005 Before you do anything, you need to contact them and ask them what they are talking about. DDR1 or DDR2?
mwindham
I called tech support at Toshiba a few times. They suggested that I call a repair center and ask what parts they would use as the tech support people did not have access to resolve such a discrepancy in the manual. I thought this was odd, and when I checked what he meant by repair centers, I found a local authorized center, but really did not want to call as I really suspect this is a production line/engineering design documentation question that is in the process of be resolved and not a local order this part issue. I checked with their parts distribution referral site and the Tecra A4 is not listed for memory replacement parts. Crucial ddr2 sodimm was qualified for the chipset used at intel, but how would I know what was implemented on the Tecra A4. When purchasing options are displayed, "PC2700 DDR333 SDRAM " are used. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 4, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 4, 2005 I am sorry, as we do not have access to one of these notebooks. But Toshiba will need to address this issue. You might go ahead and call the service center and ask them.
Scottyman
If a manufacturer is offering DDR memory in a DDR2 chipset(it happens) then you will not be able to use DDR2. They are not backwards compatible. I almost bought that laptop, but changed my mind because of their "cost saving" methods.
