Failing memtest and getting blue screens.

Recommended Posts

I've always enjoyed my corsair memory but lately my system has been getting blue screens and erroring out saying something like "memory at location XXXX can not be 'Read'" and stuff. So I decided to run mem test turns out I got some bad sectors on both the twinx modules I bought last year. Would like to get an RMA if I could. After having that problem occur, I put in some of my old Value Select and now the system runs just fine. So I have determined it is the XMS modules that are causing the mishaps.

Can you tell me our modules part# and the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

they are a set twin CMX512-3200C2 PRO

my CPU is an Athlon 3000+, with the FSB at 200. I am using an Asus A7N8NX Deluxe. I've always used the default bios settings for the RAM at 3-3-3-7.

everything is on stock speeds, no OCing here. Never had a need too.

Please set the following settings manually:

CPU Freq: 200 MHz (Please make sure you have a 200 FSB CPU)

System performance: User Define

Memory Frequency: 100%

Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts

Resulting Frequency: 200 MHz

SDRAM CAS Latency: 2.5T

SDRAM RAS to CAS Delay (tRCD): 3T

SDRAM Row Precharge (tRP): 3T

SDRAM Active to Precharge Delay (tRAS): 6T

Then please test the module or modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. But with this CPU if you try run the memory at default or DDR400 it will cause a bottleneck in the chipset and may generate errors that are not from the memory.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry for the long time between replys I was out of town...but anyway

Put the memory at the settings you suggested....

both modules still fail memtest..

test 5 and 6 seems to cause the most errors, while 1-4 are usually clear of problems.

That would suggest some other problem, as it would be rare to get 2 bad module or 2 modules fail at the same time. Can you test them in another system?

they both do not fail on the same tests, I should of been more specific, for instance, the first module got a whole bunch of errors on test 5. Then some on 6 and a few on 7.

then my next module would pass test 5, but get a few on 6, and a few more on 7.

and it really wouldn't be possible to test them in another system without underclocking them. (be a pain in the arse too.) This is the only system I have that supports 3200

not to mention I don't trust the powersupply in my other system.

What you have posted would suggest some other problem, but I have no problem replacing your modules if you like.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

I thank you for your support, but you must see that the ram should be at fault. I use the ram, windows crashes, I take out the ram and use some value select...windows don't crash nor do I get any errors in memtest. I love this corsair..XMS and I miss it. Sent a RMA request Thank you.
