Roger_Dodger
I have a stick of CMX512-3200C2 that will not allow my pc to boot when installed in memory slot 1 by itself. I only get 3 long beeps from the motherboard, no video display and it will not boot. Here is the situation. The motherboard is an MSI KT4 Ultra. I have had this board since Dec 2002. It was purchased with 1 stick of CMX512-3200C2. I have used this board for over 2 years with 1 stick of CMX512-3200C2 Corsair ram with no problems. I decided to add another stick of 512mb for 1gb. I ordered the exact same memory module with the same cas rating, same specs from the same reseller (newegg). When I added the new stick into the second memory slot, windows booted ok, but would spontanously reboot after running for only a few minutes. It totally made my system unstable. I took out my good stick of CMX512-3200C2 and put the new stick in by itself. Now the computer will not even post, let alone boot. When I put the good stick back in everything works great. I am absolutely sure my hadware is working fine. It works great with a different stick of the same memory purchased 2 years ago. Things stop working after putting in this new stick of memory. Please advise on returning this for a replacement. Thank you, Roger_Dodger
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2005 Please make sure both modules are exactly the same part# and revision. In addition with this chipset running 2 modules you would need to install them in slots 1-3 and set the memory frequency at 1-1 or 100% so it's in sync with your CPU and I would set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and set the timings manually to Cass 2.5-3-3-7 as well. If the modules are not matched, then you for sure would need to set the memory Frequency and timings manually!
Roger_Dodger
Ram_Guy I tried your suggestion. I used slot 1 and 3 for the memory modules. Set the timings manually, and set voltage to 2.7v. The machine boots, but spontaneously reboots just a couple minutes after windows loads. I also tried setting the memory to CAS3 and lowered the other timings to be less strenous. It still has the same reboot problem The memory has the same part number, but different revisions. I don't have the revision numbers handy right now. I can get that later. I understand there could be compatability issues using both sticks since they are not a matched pair, but the new stick won't even boot when used by itself at any cas timing. The original stick works fine by itself with the cas timing set at 2. Any more suggestions? Thanks, Roger_Dodger
