2x CMX512-3200XLPRO in Asus A8V Deluxe, Dual Channel config won't boot

I'm attempting to use 2 sticks of CMX512-3200XLPRO ram with a new Asus A8V Deluxe MB - AMD 64 CPU 3500+

 

other RAM info as printed on the sticks:

XMS3208v1.1

0443013-2

indicates 2.2.2.5 latency

 

MB has 4 memory slots:

A1 (blue)

A2 (black)

B1 (blue)

B2 (black)

 

For a single stick, Asus recommends it go in slot B1

For dual channel, Asus recommends they go in slots A1 - B1.

 

I can put either stick (by itself) into slot B1, board boots fine

With sticks in slots A1 & B1, no boot (tried both combinations of sticks)

With sticks in slots A2 & B2, no boot (tried both combinations of sticks)

With sticks in slots B1 & B2, boots fine, but only in Single Channel mode (to be expected)

 

I haven't mucked with any of the MB memory timings yet. The values that are available for me to change include:

 

Bank Interleaving // set to auto // [auto - enabled - disabled] available

Node Interleaving // set to disabled // [auto - enabled - disabled] available

Burst Length // set to 8 beats // [4 beats - 8 beats] available

 

everything below is currently set to "auto":

 

CAS Latency [CL] [auto - 2.0 - 2.5 - 3.0] available

TRWT [auto - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6] CLK available

TRAS [auto - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9 - 10 - 11 - 12 - 13 - 14 - 15] CLK available

TRP [auto - 2 - 3 - 4 - 5 - 6] CLK available

TWCL [auto - 1 - 2] CLK available

 

AsyncLat [auto - 4 - 5 - 6 - 7 - 8 - 9] CLK available

Read Preamble Setting [auto - 2.0 - 2.5 - 3.0 - 3.5 - 4.0 - 4.5 - 5.0 - 5.5 - 6.0 - 6.5 - 7.0 - 7.5 - 8.0 - 9.0] ns available

2T Command [auto - enabled - disabled] available

 

I'm using an enermax 600W power supply, so I don't think this is a low power issue. Any recommendations on settings to see if I can get this thing to boot in Dual Channel mode? Or, if you need further information, please indicate what you need.

Please make sure that you have the latest bios, as that can cause this issue. If you do and still have this problem, I would RMA the CPU.

 

Out of idle curiosity, why do you recommend an RMA of the CPU vs. the motherboard? Is there are history of these CPUs causing this type of issue?

 

The BIOS version that the board came with is 1008. The latest released version is 1009 and the latest beta 1010-003. Start with 1009 and then try 1010-003 if 1009 doesn't work?

That type of failure would suggest the memory controller is failing and the memory controller is in the CPU. If it's the MB the latest bios should solve the problem.

 

Just FYI, I returned the CPU. Dropped the new one in and it booted in Dual Channel Mode no problems at all, so it really was the CPU.
