ML140 Noise

I bought three ML140 Pro Red fans last year. (CO-9050047-WW)

Now one of them is randomly making a grinding noise. It sounds like a bad bearing, but the MLs don't have them? Does it need any maintenance or do I just need to replace it? I tried to blow them out this past weekend and it didn't help.

Thanks

I would check the voltage - this can happen if the fan is being controlled in DC mode and doesn't get the full 12V. Unlike many other PWM fans, the ML fans actually need to have the full 12V at all times and cannot be controlled as a DC fan (in the event that the connector doesn't support PWM control). If you can confirm that this is on a PWM header and the PWM header is in PWM "mode" (many BIOSes allow you to set the "mode" for a fan header), then it may be something that you want to investigate with Corsair support.

Thanks. It's on a h115i. I run two on the h115i and the other is running straight from a molex adapter).

I'll check the voltage and maybe just switch it with the one that's on molex.

If it's on an H115i then it should be getting the full 12V ... unless your cooler isn't getting enough power. But, IIRC, that cooler is SATA powered so it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks. I'll try switching them around and see.

While a bit of nuisance, the easiest way to sort it out is by taking the fan off the radiator, then holding it in your hand while it's running (from pump splitter or motherboard PWM). If it has a rattle or is out of balance, it's usually easy to feel.

Ok, thanks.
