One of my TwinX chips appears to be bad.

I had one gig of ram in my machine. 2X CMX512-3200LL chips.

Over the past 2 months I had been getting a lot of game crashes but didn't think it was my memory until I ran the memtest86 program.

First time I ran it I found errors so I took the chips out and put 1 in at a time and found that its only happening on one of the chips.

When I test the bad chip it gets to almost 98% finished then it goes crazy on errors.

What should I do?

Can you tell me the make and model of MB you have along with the CPU speed and it’s FSB as well? In addition, please tell me the bios settings you have set for both CPU and memory and any performance settings that you may have set?

Answer for Wired: Yes they are a TWINX pack, I have the plastic case thing that they came in right here with me.

Answer for RAM GUY:

-Asus K8V SE Deluxe

-Athlon 64 3000+

-FSB 200

-Memory Settings, everything was on AUTO. There are a ton of different settings for memory but I left them alone because it always does the right settings on its own. I check with the CPUZ program.

-In the FSB settings there is an option for Performance Mode, and its choices are AUTO, STANDARD, TURBO. Its at STANDARD.

Please make sure the modules are in slots 1-3 or 2-3 and you have the latest bios and then load setup defaults and set the following settings and test them with http://www.memtest.org. If you get errors please test the modules one at a time. If both modules fail that would suggest some other problem, and I would test them in another system if you can. But if one is just failing them lets get them replaced.

Please follow the link in my signature “I think I have a bad part!” and we will be happy to replace them or it!

System Performance: Auto

Dim Voltage 2.7 Volts

CAS Latency CL=2.0

Row Cycle Time tRC Bios Default

Row Refresh Cyc Time tRFC Bios Default

Ras# to CAS# delay tRCD 3

Row to Row delay Bios Default

Min Ras# Active Time tRAS 6

Row Precharge Time tRP 2

Write Recovery Time Bios Default

Write to Read delay Bios Default

Read to Write Delay Bios Default

Refresh Period tREF Bios Default

After loading defaults on my motherboard and sticking the one that was bad the first time in it still gets errors.

Do I need to send both chips back to you guys if only one is having the errors?
