-stORm-
I posted this on reddit: but i have no replies, so im posting here. I installed the h100i pro yesterday, and the pump is making these weird buzzing noises. I've looked this up quite a bit, and I pretty sure its not the fans, and im pretty sure all the air bubbles are out of the pump (i have the radiator higher than the pump). ive unlplugged the fans from the pump and into the motherboard and the buzzing continues. i recorded the pump at idle: [ame] [/ame] and oddly enough, whenever i open ICUE to configure it i get this noise: [ame] [/ame] i have my pump setting set to quiet, and it makes the noise above. my temps are in the 20's as well, so it cant be too hot. when i switch to balanced, it goes back to what idle sounds like, but louder. the weird sound only happens when ICUE is open, and doesnt stop until i restart my computer. however the buzzing in the first video hasnt gone away at all. I updated ICUE and the noise still persisted, so i had to make sure it didnt boot at startup. that fixed the thumping in the second video, but the buzzing is still there. I sit a couple of feet away from my computer, and i can definitely hear the pump, as my gpu and radiator fans are low - 0 rpm. I thought water coolers were supposed to be quieter. should i be worried? as long as i dont open ICUE the loud thumping noise doesnt happen, but the constant buzzing is kind of irritating. will it go away? is my pump bad / failing? is there anything i can do? or should i just contact corsair? c-attack
The first video sounds like a typical pump. The relative loudness is something you'll have to judge. Frankly, if you can hear it while working at your desk with the case closed, that's a problem and you need to send it back and either try a replacement model or something else entirely. The second is more concerning, but it doesn't sound like a pump. It sounds more like a fan that is too tight. However, that would be pretty much omnipresent and so if this comes and goes as you launch/quit iCUE, I do see this as a serious problem. When iCUE is not running (during boot or if you quit the app and service in the task manager), the pump and fans will run from a profile saved to the device. Typically this is a relatively mild curve. When you launch the software, it will run whatever you have it set to. The H100i Plat. should have two pump speeds -- one around 2400 and the other just short of 3000. That is probably labeled as "Quiet" (low) and Extreme (high) in iCUE. Toggle the pump back and forth from high to low and see what happens. iCUE is a bit different and you must click the fan profile first (Quiet or Extreme), it will highlight yellow, then click on the pump. It should also highlight yellow in a ring. Does the sound change? Is it still that bad?
-stORm-
i recorded switching modes with ICUE: [ame] [/ame] im only changing the pump settings in iCUE. the first is at the quiet setting, around 1050-1080 rpm, and you can easily hear the thumping. I then switched to balanced, which is around 2070 rpm. i can hear bubbles, but i think they went away after a second or two. the balanced is louder than when i wasnt using iCUE at all. at 20 seconds, i switch to extreme mode (2760-2790 rpm) this is about twice as loud as without iCUE. then i switch from extreme to quiet, and back to extreme, then back to quiet. then i turned off iCUE through task manager, and the thumping at quiet mode continues. I can only get it to stop if i open iCUE at all, and if i do, i need to fully power off and on my pc for it to go away. i have my computer lying horizontally maybe 3 feet away from me on the floor, and i can hear the buzzing. Its in a node 202, and i had the case open for better air cool temps, and now i basically have to have it open until the ophion evo comes back in stock in the US. heres what it looks like (im not an idiot i swear i have a plan lol): https://imgur.com/a/2iW9KNu
c-attack
Opps. Sorry. I have the Platinum model on my brain. The Pro is 1100/2160/2850 through the three settings and if you hear anything coming from the pump on Quiet at 1100 -- take it back. 1100 should be undetectable and is meant for quiet desktop work. I can't hear 2160 at all and that is consistent with other users across all the Pro models. Thumping is not good and clearly there is some sort of mechanical issue. This thing needs to come off. Likely the fastest resolution for you is to return it to the vendor as defective and get another. If for whatever reason that is not easy, contact Corsair through the ticket support system, cut and paste this all in, and expressly let them know this is a brand new unit. They'll ship you a new one. The Pro coolers are quiet and there have been very few complaints. This is only one of a handful of out of the box issues I can remember. Sorry. Just bad luck.
