rexbinary
Hi all, I have moved from a rig with a H80 classic to a new rig with a H150i PRO RGB. In my old rig no software was required because all the logic was in the cooler itself for adjusting the fans based on the temperature. I have been testing out my H150i PRO RGB with and without Corsair Link running. What I have noticed is when Corsair Link is not running, and the CPU is under load, the H150i fans never increase from around 500RPM. With the Corsair Link software running (Quiet profile selected), the fans will increase up to 1500RPM when the CPU is under load. This would lead me to believe that the H150i requires Corsair Link to be running to function properly and that there is no logic in the cooler itself. Also I noticed in the Corsair Link software under Options and Devices, there is a option to click that says "Use current settings as default". When I click this it says "Settings were stored to device memory". Now this would lead me to believe there is logic in the cooler itself. So I'm pretty confused at this point. Does the cooler require Corsair Link to be running to cool properly, or is there something wrong my cooler where it doesn't cool properly when Corsair Link is not running? DevBiker
Your cooler will run a default fan curve ("Quiet", IIRC) when Link isn't running. So Link isn't required. As you've noticed, you can write a custom fan curve to the cooler as well. This curve MUST be based on the coolant temperature. Link-based custom fan curves should be based on coolant temperature but don't have to be.
rexbinary
Thanks for the reply. My tests indicate that there is no fan curve at all in the cooler itself at all as the fans never move from 500RPM when the CPU is under heavy load and the Corsair Link software is not running. But, when the CPU is under heavy load and the Corsair Link software is running (Quiet profile selected), the fans move right up to 1500RPM. Hence my confusion. I have tried selecting the Quiet profile in Corsair Link, and then using the "Use current setting as default" option. Same result. As soon as the Corsair Link software is no longer running, the fans never increase on the cooler with the CPU under heavy load. Is there something I can do to troubleshoot the cooler? Maybe reset it somehow?
DevBiker
The default fan curve is based on coolant temperature, not CPU temperature. Under "heavy load", it takes time for the coolant to speed up. So how are you monitoring the coolant temperature and fan speed if Link isn't running? rexbinary
I'm using AIDA64. Let me try letting it run longer then since it's based on coolant temp. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.
DevBiker
I'm using AIDA64. Let me try letting it run longer then since it's based on coolant temp. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes. AIDA64 is reading the coolant temp and the fan speeds? Note that the CPU Fan Speed is the pump speed not the fan speed. That will be steady. rexbinary
Yeah AIDA64 supports most Corsair coolers. I finally get it now. Even with the CPU under full load for an extended amount of time it increases the coolant temp by 1 degree. Seems the cooler is doing a good job. Thanks for your help! DevBiker
DO NOT run Link and AIDA at the same time if AIDA is monitoring the Corsair hardware. If you want to run them at the same time, you need to disable Corsair monitoring.
rexbinary
I've never ran them at the same time. Thanks!
