tooslow
The past month, I've been having random instances of my PC shutting down or crashing. Now when I say shut down, I don't mean it physically powers down, but the screen goes blank. I thought it was the video card. Replaced that, with no luck. Also re-formatted, again with no luck. Here are my system specs: Corsair-3200XLPRO 512 x2 Abit IC7-G P4 3Ghz ATI 9700 Pro AIW OCZ 520W WD 180G HD Xp Pro I have also pulled one stick out and then swapped them around. Every time the computer will eventually crash. A friend came over and let me test out his cheaper Crucial memory. No problems there. I then read the FAQ here and made a boot floppy of MemTest. MemTest failed with both sticks installed, as well as each stick installed individually. I really do not see how both sticks could possibly go bad around the same time. I've already contacted my retailer(zipzoomfly.com), and they've instructed me to come here. I do have receipts showing me as the original purchaser. I've followed the "I think I have a bad part" FAQ, and here I am. I am open for other suggestions, as this is really frustrating. I've also taken pics of the errors that MemTest has detected, and will post them if that may possibly help. All errors were detected during "test 5". Thanks. Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted February 28, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted February 28, 2005 Please set the Dim Voltage to 2.7 Volts and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org. If you still get errors, please see if you can test them in another system, but the minimum suggested voltage for these modules would be 2.75 Volts. tooslow
Thanks! I just checked the memory out as a pair using the 7v settings. After 8hrs, NO ERRORS! I'll do a full 24hr test later on this weekend. The default was set to 2.6, but it's weird that I never had any problems until recently. Unfortunately, the IC7-G doesn't have a 2.75 setting. Jumps from 7 to 8v. Thanks again! Hopefully this solves the problem. :):
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 2, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 2, 2005 No problem, please let me know if you have any more trouble!
tooslow
No problem, please let me know if you have any more trouble! Still crashing, but I have yet to do a full 24hr test. I will post those results later on this week. I've set the voltage to 2.7v, but BIOS is reading 2.66v for the memory. Not sure if that's a problem or not. I do not want to try 1.8v unless you think it woudn't hurt to try. Also, I have the memory set to "at rated speed", which defaults to 2.5-2-2-5. Let me know if I should try anything else before running Memtest later on this week. I will also swap my memory with a friend who has the same MB this weekend and see what happens. Thanks. Wired
Go for 2.8, as they're warrantied up to, but not over, 2.9 volts.
Corsair Employees RAM GUY Posted March 3, 2005 Corsair Employees Share Posted March 3, 2005 I would agree, try 2.8 Volts and test the modules one at a time with http://www.memtest.org to be sure one is not failing.
